I think we might go back to something that resembles a 4-4-2 too, but without any wingers. The fullbacks will cover the flanks. Much of it depends on what will happen with Walcott I suppose.

Very different players though aren't they? Reus more of a penetrative forward and Cazorla more a clever, game-controlling, midfielder?

It's not important if we sign Cazola or not (although it would be hilarious if it fell through), no the important thing is that Wenger is still trying to resurrect his doomed decrepit Fabregasian dream of a short passing Spanish style team in the Premiership.
The money aspect is also very revealing , after hearing for years the bleating of his acolytes (thought tbf not from Wenger himself and not from the board) thats theres no money- Lo and behold it appears like magic out of the piggy bank for the right "super quality" player.

They haven't been fixed for the last six years, e.g. money available now wasn't and isn't always available.

We operate at break even, that's a fact, but 'even' hasn't always been equal.

As I said, Wenger and the board have always said that money was available, with the usual proviso's (Super quality etc), my beef is not that money is being spent now (I'm happy with Podolski and Giroud and I agree with you that it would be better spent on Reus), but that it's indicative of the way Wenger wants us to play- And thats very bad news my friend.

Well we have actually signed two players who play a very direct, rough and tumble style of football and we may sign one player who is more spanish in style (but not so much as, let's say Xavi). Our squad is primarily made up of the first style of player.

Can't see what Cazorla is indicative of, other than Wenger wanting a player he thinks is high quality.

My personal opinion is that we need Sahin, Cazorla and M'vila to mount a serious challenge this season (assuming all hit the ground running), but all I'm really hoping for is that Ramsey, Gervinho and Gibbs step up a level from last season's showings.

We're looking at playing a team that has been overhauled quite comprehensively since Fabregas departed.
We're not dealing with identikit players as replacements for those who left.
The physique, age experience, character and profile of our signings is very different.
Wenger won't abandon his desire to play attractive attacking football, but signing Cazorla does not mean we're going to build the team around him or revert back to a purely Barca style game.

To be prepared to spend all that sort of money he must be integral to Wengers plans.
Who's going to make way for him?
This will change the whole way we play and ruin the progress we made last season speeding things up, this is a step backward.

Let's wait and see eh? Our lack of creators last season was a huge problem - surely getting a guy in who can make a goal, score a goal, and is more than useful at set pieces will be useful to us.

Assuming, as you appear to be, that he's going to have a disposition and footballing ethic similar to Fabregas, and that the team and tactics will be built around him to our overall detriment is too preemptive.

I would say, wait until you see him. Stylistically, he is more pre-injury Pires than Fabregas. Also worth noting that he has mostly played under Pellegrini who plays direct football based on high workrate and varied passing.

I also see him playing wide here.

Well it won't be Song or Arteta who makes way so as Fox said that means Ramsey or Rosicky.
That's got to be an improvement no?
How did speeding things up last season help us?
We were almost wholly reliant on Robin for goals and our defence was constantly exposed because we shoved them forward to compensate for our lack of creativity in midfield.

You like Arteta I assume? Would you not describe him as a clever, game-controlling midfielder? Same with Rosicky, Pires or Bergkamp, albeit in differing roles. Clever and manipulative rather than just speed power and directness.

If you want to play a fast paced game you need players who can think fast just as much as your quick, direct players.
