We are supposedly an attacking team yet no matter who we have in the squad we seem to score a very conservative number of goals each season. Even in 09/10 there where we scored a respectable 83 2 teams scored more and the league winners Chelsea scored over 100 goals. Even in seasons where van Persie, Adebayor and Henry scored really well as the CF we failed to raise our overall number of goals. When we have had top creative players like Ozil and Fabregas we haven't scored enough. The idea that we don't score enough seems to have been common since we lost our last world class striker in van Persie but in reality the problem has persisted since we lost the core of the invincibles squad.

The perception of Wenger as a great attacking coach is an absolute myth, he is extremely conservative in his attacking and we can see that in how little we score and in the way we play. This is especially apparent since he abandoned his successful counter attacking style in favour of a possession based system. This switch was initially supposed to make us more adept at dealing with European sides but here we are 12 year later still without a European trophy and with only 1 good CL run all the way back in 05/06. Not only has this system failed in Europe but we haven't won a single league title since its introduction. Yet here we are in 2016 still shoving players that it doesn't suit into the system and hoping it'll all somehow come together and click.

As much as we will all hope for a top striker in the summer transfer window it would seem that even that wont be nearly enough to get us to the top. We need several great attacking players who can score goals. We Ozil and Sanchez are good enough but they need support and competition to allow them to play at their best. Alexis needs rest and competition. Ozil needs more than one passing option per attack. Giroud needs to be 2nd choice and the rest of our forwards/wingers need to fight to get a back up place not be handed a dozen starts a season for no good reason.

We wont progress until our attacking issues are resolved. It is the single biggest flaw in our side and we need it sorted. Can Wenger sort it? The evidence for over a decade suggests that whether he has great midfielders, great creators or even great strikers he still cannot make it work.
