If only that were so Tim. They certainly have, at least in the sense of him being able to legitimately take on the role Cesc had when Cesc left to Barcelona, because he was a world class prospect as a creative midfielder.

Saying that Ramsey was/is a long term replacement for Cesc Fabregas is not the same as saying he's the 'next' Cesc Fabregas.

Problem with Ramsey is he built up a fair amount of goodwill with a few promising performances early on, very similar to Walcott. But in reality, neither man has pushed on as quickly as we would've hoped. Unfortunately, for both men, Wenger has thrust far too much responsibility on their shoulders.

It's a bit like when people for the longest time claimed that Arteta was a replacement for Fabregas last summer. Some see what they want to see.

He was much better yesterday after he moved forward. His off the ball movement is great, I can see why Wenger thought he'd be so good there but his finishing needs to improve or else that movement is just going to waste.

He is 21. All aspects of his game will improve.

I think he's better further up the field too. Above all it didn't seem clear which roles he and Song were supposed to play against Chelsea and Wigan, though. Neither played as a holding midfielder and we didn't distribute the ball quickly enough as a consequence. Since Ramsey isn't - and never has been - a holding midfielder I'm assuming that Song was supposed to deputise for Arteta.

Wenger still talks about Song as a defensive midfielder even though he doesn´t play as one.

As for Ramsey - I think we need a dedicated holding mid if we are to get the best out of a midfield with both Wilshere and Ramsey in it. Song can perform that role, but it doesn´t feel as if either he or Wenger wants that sort of role.

Song is a defensive mid. Or rather, he's a central midfielder who's filtering between attack and defence. Arteta is the holding one. The problem in the last two games has been that Song has kept filtering back and forth but we haven't had anyone who stays central, distributes the ball and provides a hub to turn the play around. Instead we've passed it back and forth in the defence until Vermaelen or Koscielny have been forced to seek out the wide players with a diagonal ball. Was particularly evident against Chelsea.

I think Kami had it bang on the other day when he said that Song fails to see the big picture, how his actions can either make the team work better or worse.

Wenger has talked about Arteta being "between Song and Ramsey" in terms of defence and attack, so I do find it very strange how deep Arteta has played and how advanced Song has.

He sees the big picture defensively. One of the few players who does as well.

I really don't get the criticism of Song's defensive game.

Ramsey has good vision, is great at running into good goal scoring positions, and his engine. To fully utilize that along with Wilshere, then I believe we need the third man in midfield to sit closer to our back 4 than Song does now.

Songs limitations are annoying. He's so close to being world class

I think he's damn good tracking back, for sure. Especially when covering for fullbacks or getting back to cut out balls into the box. He can be bypassed embarrassingly easily in midfield though. Gets caught square on consistently and is easily passed around. If he played with full intensity and concentration all game long, he'd be excellent defensively. Switches off so often. Those cheap fouls are a feature of his game, and it's not because it's a professional foul; as is often said, it's because he's too lazy to get the right side of his man before tackling him or has switched off and been passed around and someone has run off him.

When he has the ball at his feet, and I know this sounds overly harsh, but I genuinely believe he doesn't really have a clue.

Put him in a better team where the manager doesn't let him think he's the best player on the team, and he'd be a great holding midfielder - even with his current weaknesses.

Song is the only player in the front six who will halt a counter attack from the opposition. Sad but true and it's essential to the way we play.

I think Ramsey does it from time to time too but he's young and inconsistent. The rest of them are cutting corners everywhere though. It really raises your blood pressure when you see how easy some of those supposedly experienced players just let opponents past them when we get dispossessed.

What on earth are you talking about Ricky? I know you dislike Song but this is just ridiculous.
