He was quite sloppy then too - had a tendency to play top many flat balls across the defence, or leave the odd back-pass to the keeper way too short.
What I liked about him pre-injury was that we had Fabregas taking the majority of the offensive burden in midfield. That freed him up a bit, and playing without as much responsibility, I think, allowed him to be a much better player. For me he's just too sloppy and self-conscious now to play such an important role, but because there's no Fabregas any more, there's just nowhere to hide in our midfield.
