one thing ive learnt with wenger is that there is no point discussing a transfer unless an official bid has come in and its on all the official websites. Having said that i think suarez could be a backup transfer from podolski and i would be happy with either tbh.
Matias Suarez
I found an interview given by Suarez at the beginning of this season.
In it he discusses and analyses just why he had issues with getting regular first team football for Anderlecht last season.
He admits that he finds it difficult to reach a certain level of consistency when he's only playing 15 minutes here and there.
He said this affects his ability to feel good about himself as part of the team.
His style of play he believes suits the short passing game, he likes to dribble and take players on one on one.
Says he sees himself as a support for the attack, which ties in with another comment I read where he said he does not see himself as a goalscorer.
He also mentions that he would reconsider his position at Anderlecht this January.
Here's the original interview.
passenger and a confidence player. next.
He will suit our style of play then and is exactly what we need, a winger/forward that can score goals, but he does seem to have a problem with being benched and at arsenal with walcott and gervinho he might be benched now and then.
Mad/maddening that we aren´t linked to better players than this guy.

Were you thinking the same thing when we were linked to vermaelen, kocielny, sagna etc
No...
well suarez is just as unknown as the guys i mentioned when we got them in
When we bought Sagna we already had Eboue coming off a really strong season at RB.
When we bought TV we also had both Gallas and Toure.
When we bought Kos he wasn't really bought as a starter.
Right now ALL our forwards bar RVP are pretty crap. We need a player who can come in and strengthen our first XI right away. In that context Suarez is certainly underwhelming.
Yet beggars can't be choosers.
@ Sam
Therefore he's going to be great?
Look at how budget our team is at the moment. You simply can't buy top players for £10 mil anymore. Prices have gone up and scouting networks of other clubs are now widely on par with our own. Those players that were hidden gems when we bought them don't really exist anymore. There are of course very sparse exceptions but we're no longer the only ones aware of those guys.
The guy looks alright on a clip compilation but his stats suggest he doesn't consistently deliver. Sitting in 5th place might make it a good time to buy some proper footballers rather than bargain bin chumps like Gervinho and Chamakh.

We are loaded!!!! We can do waaaay better. IF we want.
Don, although I agree with you, I would like to add that previous transfer windows have shown that there is still great value for money to get in the market. Look at Dortmund buying Reus for about 14m for instance. Great business.

I didnt say he was gonna be great, tbf i would say he has potential and if wenger can see that and is willing to spend 10 million i would think he has a good chance of being good. One thing Wenger is good at is usually getting big transfers right the only reason they fail is not based on talent.
And judging gervinho on his first five months of english football is foolish he needs time before you can completely write him off. But i agree we wont be winning any trophies with buying these hidden players but we will be competitive in the top four.

Loaded penny pinchers.
Seriously though, I know where you're coming from. Was more referring to us fans with that comment. Can't say I expect much from the Board/Wenger when it comes to "name" signings though, so this Matias Suarez guy sounds and looks kind of...you know...alright. Might turn out a steal or the opposite. Point is, we'll never know unless we make the signing.
Wenger hasn't bought a quality forward for ages
Asa - I totally agree with that, our defensive signings have been better in recent years. Then again, has Wenger attempted to buy a first choice striker i.e. the equivalent of Koscielny, Vermaelen and Sagna? I doubt it - Park and Chamakh are similar to Silvestre and Squillaci in that they were always going to be squad players. We need to find the Mertesacker of strikers.

Demba Ba? Hernandez? In the last two transfer windows and this is within England itself, I expect there have been similar bargains elsewhere.
Having an extensive scouting network doesn't guarantee much, Vermaelen was scouted by Man City and Spurs with both clubs passing him over allowing us to swoop in.
Paying £50m is no more an assurance of quality either, as Liverpool and Chelsea will tell you.
Edit: Some other 'bargain' buys:
Kagawa £350k
van der vaart £8m
Ozil £15m
Cavani
Boateng £4m

You can't buy guaranteed quality for £10m is what I'd say, certainly not in the forward or creative positions. So what are we working with, two or three 50/50 propositions for £10m apiece, or one pretty much guaranteed improvement for £25-30m? When you need your signings to work out, you have to spend up.
Over the past six years, we've had the makings of a side to win major trophies in every position on the pitch, but we've never had them all when we needed them because our signings are always so fucking speculative, and/or late.
Nevertheless, if we could guarantee holding fourth spot, now's the time to make a couple of speculative signings, because we're sure as shit not winning anything this year.
Interesting article from the journalist that the story originated from.

Burns is right. This might be our last chance to spend big. If we fall out of the top 4, we might be locked out of geting very good players for years. The Champions League is everything. Maybe if United win the UEFA Cup, it will allow us to save face when we finish 5th at the end of the season, and we can still claim we are in a prestigious European competition.
