Would he be the super quality final piece of the puzzle that we're looking for?

This is all fantasy stuff though isn't it - we're not going to outbid any of the clubs that would also want to sign him and even if he's been inconsistent this season so far Madrid surely won't sell.

Yep, pure fantasy.

Don't know about final piece of the puzzle; we're alot further away than that but yes he is better than Gotze (although they are quite different as well) and I would absolutely take him in a heartbeat.

y va: As for what happened to him this season you don't have to look further away than Mourinho. He's never been one to champion true brilliance in the past but it's so obvious that he doesn't know what to do with it when he actually has it in his possession. Özil is a unique player who requires the right circumstances to work. In Germany everything runs through him. Their football is centered around moving the ball quickly along the ground with a minimal amount of touches. It's quick and constructive and makes use of a player with extraordinary vision. Özil makes over hundred passes in any given game for Germany, sets dozen of attacking moves in motion before the opponents have a chance to react. He's surrounded with players who make the runs and feed him the ball to set up chances.

In Real this season he's the odd man out, the one who should be running their attack but instead is a bit-part player because there are players who are faster, stronger and better goalscorers in the side. Ronaldo and Di Maria in particular, but also Benzema, have built their game on being physically superior to their opponents. Did you watch the Clasico? As soon as they got the ball they sprinted towards the touchline. You watched that game with the realisation that Özil played for the wrong team. It says everything about Mourinho's limitations as a manager and nothing about Özil's quality as a player. Bergkamp flopped badly in Italy too where they failed to recognize what made him great.

Oezil would be a great signing. Drop Ramsey back to more of a central midfield position, and play Oezil off of Robin. He's a very good player.

Why is this even discussed? Özil is not leaving Madrid unless he told Maureen the truth:

Unless things have gone down like that in Madrid, more or less, Özil is going nowhere.

On top of that - we couldn´t afford him. Brilliant, brilliant player though.

Forget Oezil. We need to just focus on hijacking unestablished kids right now. Focus on guys who are slightly below on the radar - Kagawa, Eriksen, Giroud.

They're not going to turn us into world beaters, but when these players replace the likes of Arshavin, Rosicky, Chamakh, etc, they put us much closer to being a much more secure top 4 club.

Would you rather wait til the end of the transfer window to see what the leftovers are after the feast at high table featuring Chelsea, United, Real, Barca, Bayern and even Milan? Or would you rather just humbly go after the players who are realistic targets, finish your business early in the window and leisurely get ready for the season?

You got to love Real Madrid. They're like a spoilt kid getting bored of his 1 week old toy and crying out for the new latest toy.

Big clubs build their teams around talents like Ozil! Would gladly welcome him here and he would instantly be the best midfield player in the league.
