The transfers can make an immediate impact but it obviously depends on who you buy. Wenger has made January signings that have played a decent role in the season (Reyes in Jan 04, Arshavin in Jan 09) but he has also bought players for the future like Diaby and Walcott.

If he wants transfers to make an immediate impact, they've got to be established solid players rather than promising prospects.

I would say Adebayor did make a difference in 2006.

Reyes may not have made a difference but had an impact in 2004, he looked capable and did contribute with a goal or two to that unbeaten run if i am not wrong.

In general i do agree that January signings may not make a lot of difference but i feel they can still have an impact obviously depending on the capability of the signing.

Well, it is a six pointer. We'll be twelve down from top if we lose, probably the most likely outcome and one which would reflect the lousiness of our season to date. Better brace ourselves for that chance.

But the thing is Capi, if it only takes a second to score a goal, it also only takes a second to tear a ligament in the golden legs and then thats our season fucked.

Agree with you about January though, what with the ACN and that.

More than anything, we need Gerv and Theo to be on top, top form. 9/10ths of our attacking play goes through the wings nowadays, and if even one of these guys is out of form against City, we'll miss out on valuable chances.

I'm not so worried about Theo...he turned up at Chelsea and has been immense since that game. It's Gerv who's a bit of a concern...he looked pretty poor at Everton and his performances have been average since mid-November (is it just me, or has he been a little sluggish recently, maybe he's suffering a little burnout?).

Put AOC on the bench (no Arshavin please). He played really well in the Carling Cup and can do it again if he needs to be brought on.

But he was horrible against Olympiacos. That being said, can't be worst than Arshavin. Especially against City, the wing players will have to defend as well. We really don't have any viable options other than Theo and Gerv it seems. Maybe Benayoun.

To be fair, everyone was horrible against Olympiakos. Even Vermaelen had a bad game.

We can definitely take City if we play well. They're the best of a poor bunch this season, just like Utd were last season. If we play like we did against Everton though we have no hope.

A lot seem to say that, however i cannot get over his lazy, uninterested performance in the 8-2 mauling at united. But then again it was Wengers fault more than anyone's.

Any way my point is he is too moody/not mature enough yet. If has to become a top player he needs more consitency in his performances.

Batman Hargreaves :\ at the City player's party last night - not too bothered by the loss to Chelsea.

I'm not convinced about their attitude in general though, they were demolishing Chelsea last night and I really think they got complacent.
Even before Clichy engineered his move to dodge Sunday's game they had allowed Chelsea work their way back into the game somewhat.

If we can weather whatever they throw at us from the off and not get discouraged if they score first, we can definitely get something out of this game.

Toure and Balotelli are loose cannons too, it'd be worth winding them up.
