What do people think of the column width on posts?

I prefer a more "broadsheet column" style with a bit more of the vertical and a bit less of the lateral. Easy to read and you get that slight extra satisfaction from pgdn-ing through miles of shit post.

I suppose I could try to work out how to do this with a client-side script, but it isn't really my area of expertise.

Do you have the ability to change the CSS for the site Pepe?

Yep.

There's an option in your User CP to switch to the username & avatar bar to the side, although that doesn't effect the overall width.

What are everyone's thoughts on this? Personally I quite like it being wide; it annoys me having endless swathes of empty space on either side (and in 1920x1200 there tends to be quite a lot). It shouldn't be too hard to change though. I could create a second theme that used narrower columns...

That option actually seemed to help a bit - thanks for that. I must have lazy eyeballs (or tunnel vision perhaps) but I just can't be bothered swivelling them left to right so much, particularly on widescreen as you say.

A second theme with a narrower post column would be brilliant.

Right, I've created a new theme called Apart Flame Narrow. It has the table width restricted to 970 pixels. Let me know how you get on with it.

Très bien. I could probably handle another 100-200px off the width but it's much better.

I'll chop 200 off you promise to let me know of any glitches!

The standard theme has a min width of 970 which is why I chose that; going below may cause a few issues.

Ok. I'm feeling good. Slim, trim and ready to score without conceding. And I can read the page without contracting eyeball swivelitis.

If only we had a "Things you are currently loving in life" thread ...

Think I'll try this out when I get in.

Can I make one sugestion though? Would it be possible to change colours slightly more than they are for the name area and the post area? They seem to blend into each other slightly.

i think this is a good shout. just a bit of extra contrast between the user info bar and the post below.

What part exactly? I'm not sure this refers to...

I'd agree actually. Also wouldn't mind the "thread title" and "user posted by" bit being altered somehow. Perhaps one being slightly different colour or bolded.

He says, being an Admin...

You bastards, I was perfectly happy with the various shades of grey until I started fiddling with them to see if I could increase the contrast, now I'm not happy with any combination. Original included!

#f3f3f3 #fafafa #fuckit!

I'll get it just right... eventually...

Maybe you could use the red from the rest of the site in the bit with the username and post count whilst keeping the post area grey.

By the way, how on earth have you, James, Ant and Don got so many posts already mate? It's not human.

I've increased the contrast between the two rows a bit more and changed the default colour for post links from grey to a more Arsenaly red.

Most site links including the post subjects, poster names etc are still grey. I tried changing the subject to bold but it looked naff. Shall continue to look at it.

Ok. the Nasri theme is so slick I can't not use it - but I need a narrow version! :o

Have you tried zooming out in your browser? What i did, but then i don't mind the slightly smaller font.

Yeah, I did try that. I'm just being picky anyway 😃 I'm pretty sure everything I want can be done client-side.

The Nasri theme is sweet though Pepe.

I've created a narrow version of it for you. Going to look into how I can add a User CP option to modify the width without using a separate theme, but this will do for now.
