Raphael Honigstein claims that if Cologne get relegated Podolski has a clause to leave for 6M. They are close to relegation but more likely to stay up but that clause is the reason there listening to offers now.

Including signing on and bonuses RVP will get close to 150K id say, but that includes big sign on fee that will have to be returned if he ever hands in a transfer request and bonuses will be if we win the league, CL each season ect so he'll never see all of it.

Exactly. How is this different from tapping up, and how is it any less unsettling and disrespectful to the player and Koln respectively? Then we get pumped with righteous anger when it happens to one of ours.

Well the rumour is that we've agreed a deal. The rumour doesn't say that we have encouraged Podolski to sign for us by talking about his Arsenal DNA, though. We haven't pulled an Arsenal shirt over his head in front of half a million people. Peter Hill-Wood doesn't release a statement every other week about how Podolski wants to move to London and how it's Köln's responsibility to make it happen.

I personally think that there's been too much happening for this not to happen, if that makes any sense.

Compare this to some of our other links, Sturridge for example. That's just paper talk and will die down soon enough and no one credible has even given it the time of day.

But with this podolski story, you have Low commenting on it, Wenger denying it as he usually does (same man who said that Nasri and Fabregas were going nowhere), BBC reporting it as a done deal, Mertsacker sending texts, Schalke head coach talking about it.

He hasn't put on an Arsenal top yet and that is the ultimate confirmation for any story but all of this certainly adds fuel to the fire.

I've no doubts - we're signing him 🙂, just making the point that the club have not been Barca like in their dealings and in the way they have approached business.

It won't be on Arsenal.com until the summer, remember the Nasri deal? Everything was signed up well in advance but the details were announced only a week before the Euros.

We seemed to be "ironing out the details" with Mata last summer as well. Don´t underestimate the club´s potential to fuck up a deal Rick, that is all I am saying!

We´ve gone from done deal to "probably ironing out the details" in 24 hours. Wonder where we will be tomorrow? 🙂

My guess is that the clubs are talking but have a different valuation of the player. Makes sense to me.
That is a nice way of me to say that I think we are trying to get away with daylight robbery and Köln don´t feel like being robbed.

First you claimed had agreed a deal with Köln, and now it's just a rumour huh?

It's unsettling and disrespectful because even if we are in negotiations, until the deal is finalized, it shouldn't have all this press/media exposure. Mertesacker, for example, shouldn't be saying how he's sent him texts to recommend that he comes here.

Of course the Fabregas situation with Barcelona was over the top, but the main issue was that as long as he was under contract with us, the Barcelona players and media had no right to basically try to force a transfer. This is a similar situation to the VanPersie to ManCity rumors, IMO. Rumors to which Wenger has reacted thus:

"Robin is the leader of our club and I would just like to specify that he is not at the end of his contract.

"He is under contract until 2013. So you do your job, focus on your job which he does very well and enjoy your games."
