Just speculating but the way he hits the ball may suggest it could be some kind of backspin he imposes upon the ball's flight.

that was like a cronaldo freekick.. there was no spin on the ball, kinda like a knuckleball in baseball.
Incredible technique. Number of factors make the ball behave like that. The minimum follow through with the shooting foot is one of the biggest reasons I think.
