Problem is though whoever we buy will have to spend the majority of time on the bench if Robin is available, meaning that we're probably only going to get a Kalou level striker at best.
Or maybe an older striker not quite up to full time first team football.
I'd love Drogba actually but I don't think there's much hope it will happen.

It's more Gervinho money. We are better off fast-tracking Oxfed Chambermaid than buying Kalou. Save our money for Hazard, Goetze, etc.

We really shouldn´t be interested. We need a striker of top quality who is equally comfortable playing on the wing. I can think of a few, but they won´t be cheap.

We definitely still need a top level player or 2 but Kalou would be a step up on Shava, Chamakh, Park, etc

If we get a Hazard/Götze and a Lavezzi we will have strengthened 4 positions; both wing forward positions, link player between CM and CF, and we will be stronger at CF. Those are the kind of players we should be looking at, not the Kalous of this world. Wenger is correct when he says we have a big squad. We really don´t need more players, just better ones. 2 in and 2 out. That´s it.

The thing is though that with the money we have from the summer these are players we should be able to land. Compared to what these players are making today at their respective clubs they should also be well within our wage bracket.

This is all about ambition from our board. We know we offered huge money for both Götze and Hazard in the dying seconds of the transfer window. Understandably their clubs said no because they wouldn´t have the time to replace the player properly. Will we go back in January?

Has it been confirmed whether the deals for Benayoun and Arteta were concluded after the bids for Hazard and Götze had fallen through? I'm guessing they were, and that the Hazard, Götze bids were also conditional alternates, which makes me doubt we'll be in solidly again for either early in the January window.

I dont think we are in a position to even compete for Hazard. You're looking at £35-50 million depending on who gets involved, and I think most of the top european teams will, and he'll have huge contracts on the table.

I really don't think Hazard will go for as much as has been speculated. €30M seems about the right figure. He's still very young, and Lille are in a very weak bargaining position, simply because Hazard will not be there next September come what may - and everyone in Europe knows that.

Wenger loves him, Hazard loves us, Madrid are signing Neymar - I think we have a fighting chance.

In an interview with L'equipe magazine Hazard says he's leaving Lille next summer, he claims he's not going anywhere in January.
The Lille president has recently slated Wenger for the way he pinched Park, some are suggesting that this may affect our chances of signing him.
I don't think so, if we bid a high enough price we can get him.
Liverpool may try to muscle in on this I suspect.
