Theo will get us goals. Of that I have not doubt. And Gervinho looks promising(although I'm a bit worried by his poor shooting). But I think we need 1 top class attacker to play on one side with either Theo/Gervinho/other-player-we-already-have on the other side.

Wilshere can do a job for us for sure. Ramsey still needs time, I fear. Diaby and Rosicky can't be relied upon. So yeah Kel, two midfielders would be optimal. One like M'Vila and one more creative. That would also give us a lot of tactical possibilities and enable us to rest players more from time to time without weakening the team completely.

For instance against physically imposing teams, or teams that are really good going forward (Manchester City, for instance), you could play both Song and M'Vila in midfield to give us that extra bit of defensive stability and steel in the middle of the pitch, where I've personally seen us be run over too many times to count.

i'm ready to declare this summer a failure. we've dumped some losers, but have pretty average players all over our squad now. this is a team with a ceiling of 4th place.

It's a big, fat failure. I can accept it if we actually sign some world-class quality to make up for what we've lost though. The fact that we haven't so far is the big problem. No one expects us to snatch players from Real and Barcelona, which means that we're gonna have to go for the tier just below: players who are on their way to become world class. Hazard is such a player. He's worth the effort even if there might be some friction to begin with. Signing players like him and Götze (or Banega or Kagawa or other players from that bracket) means that you've tried to make up for the creative quality you've lost. Nobody is asking for more. If we end this summer with Gervinho and Mertesacker as our marquee signings heads will have to roll though.
