What I expected as Nasri and Cesc went was one centre half and one mid. I had thought probably Cahill and M'Vila. We got both those positions and more. I'm delighted we signed a left back because I really never expected it and that means we wont see TV or Sagna moved out to left back so quickly. I'm surprised we got a striker at all, so I'm happy there. And we got Benayoun as a bonus.

Ok we didn't get a super quality midfielder like Hazard or (supposedly) M'Vila but Arteta is one of the best mids in the league if he can get fit. I suppose thats the biggest worry with Arteta and Benayoun, can they maintain their fitness.

After seeing 8 people out on Sunday due to fitness and disciplinary issues, it makes sense to then bring in personnel that is injury prone. We will regularly see the kind of attacking unit we fielded on Sunday due to the injury-prone nature of the people we have and have brought in. Attack and central midifield, thus remain massive question marks.
I'm happy that Martesacker is in. Hopefully, it means I see very little of the Squisclieny - Djourou connection. The three of them are rubbish.

Had almost secured Gourcuff on loan until Pjanic moved. Saw the rumour yesterday and thought nothing of it, but is apparently true.

Chamakh will have to continue seeing his boyfriend on weekends only.

Watzke also confirmed the £35m bid for Goetze.

As I said, Arsenal were working overtime but ultimately left it too late.

But seriously, the point was that targets were identified and alot of work went into signing them (or not as the case may be) when someone was suggesting that the unsigned targets were all nonsense.

According to France Football we tried to sign for 25m but it was turned down as Lille couldn't replace him, and that we'll be back in for him in Jan.

If we bid that much for Gotze we'll definitely go back in for him again so that's a positive. It's our fault for leaving everything so late.

I think in Gotze's case it wasn't late enough. It's too early for him to move.

I thought those two would be our biggest signings too. Have to say I rate both Arteta and Mertesacker a lot higher. I didn't feel that Cahill and M'Vila were anywhere near enough to replace the quality we've lost though, and the same goes for the two we actually signed.

I'm pleased we went for another forward and a left-back though. Didn't think we even considered those positions.

In terms of this season I'd rather Benayoun. Pjanic is rubbish quite a lot of the time, although he does have ability.

We opted for experience for once 😉 I haven't followed Pjanic in a while but it sounds like he's been unmotivated lately, oh well.

I still wanted Hazard though.

With Art's PL and Mert's international experience I do two.
Could this possibly be Wengers conversion on the road to Damascus?
If this thunderbolt from Fergi didn't do it nothing can.
