Nobody is totally happy, and the fans will have plenty to say if the team continues to dissapoint. At this stage though, most of us are willing to wait and see what our new lads can bring to the table.

Our squad is slightly stronger and more experienced. Fans will probably revolt when we don't get a couple of good results in a row.

Mertesacker is the most important signing for me. Just have a feeling he's going to fit in quickly and do well, make a difference. Gervinho and Arteta next in line.

Santos not so much, and Park I don't know enough about. Chamberlain looks a real prospect too, and Ryo, of course - hoping they can give us more than we're expecting this season.

All the experienced signings are just about good enough for 4th but don't offer anything that special. Basically it's a stop gap for players like Ramsey/Chamberlain/Ryo/etc... to develop as well as a setup for signing top class players (hopefully) next window/season. We're definitely not aiming to win the league or CL this season.

I know, I know. I'm not sure why but I just get the feeling him and Vermaelen, and him and Arsenal, is going to work. He's not my kind of defender, he's not my ideal signing, but I just fancy it to work very well.

I actually think he's going to be great for us.

these signings wouldn't have made a bit of difference when we had nasri and fabregas. we needed the likes of kaka even when they were here. i'd love to know what in the name of bergkamp wenger, gazidis, this dick law cuntbag, and the 17 other shitforbrains who apparently work on transfers at this club, have been doing for the last 12 months in preparation for this transfer window.

Strategically it's probably better not to let the Cesc and Nasri cash leave in the same window as it arrives - even if you intend to spend it in the fullness of time.

The price tags on M'Vila, Hazard and Gotze say as much. They were enormous because we were known to be sitting on a flipping great wadge of cash.

Arteta, Mertesacker and Benayoun would've been superb signings in the 08 or 09 windows. Mein Gott, best not even to talk about it.

Fucked up window, fucked up transfer policy. Wasted our investment in Fabregas completely over the past six years.

Have to say I'm pretty pleased. It's a pity there doesn't appear to have been much effort to do it before the season started but I certainly didn't expect to wake up this morning and learn we had signed 3 experienced players who are going to immediately improve our starting 11, and I'm pretty confident that's what we've got in Mertesacker, Santos and Arteta. Not too sure what Benayoun's role might be, presumably similar to Rosicky I guess. But he's a player who has done well against us in the past (think the 4-4 against Liverpool for example, wasn't he involved in most of the goals and scored a couple of them?) and he's got loads of premiership and European experience so he should add some good leadership and backbone anyway.

Perhaps not the "super quality" players we'd hoped for but unfortunately given we're now quite clearly a step below the 3 big clubs in England, I'm not sure we could have attracted much better to be honest. Think we've done really well to get players of this quality in, just a pity that we took so long and had to put out what was really a largely 2nd tier side at Old Trafford.

I just woke up and after seeing Benayoun on Arsenal.com, I really felt like going back to sleep and never waking up again.

Arteta I'm fine with. Adds experience, squad depth and company for Diaby. But Benayoun? On loan? Is this some kind of a sick joke?

I wouldn't bet on us finishing in top 4 right now.

Surely 4th looks a lot more likely than it did a few days ago though doesn't it?

Arteta, when fit, has consistently been one of the best attacking midfielders in the league for quite a few years.

Obviously we all wanted a Hazard or a Götze, but a quality player, experienced in our league is surely the next best thing? Rather that than take a punt on some of the other names people seem to have been more excited about this summer.

😆 you do know he's gonna be looked after by the arsenal physios. the same arsenal physios that treat our players in a bid to justify their wages.

Sure, but that's because finishing fourth looked like utopia a few days before.

Not that a club like Arsenal should aspire towards finishing 4th, but there you go.

A welcome shift towards more experience.

But for me nothing will wipe the stain of that massacre, irrregardless of what else he's done in his time here Wengers whole reputation is in tatters.

We could have signed Gotze, Eriksen or Hazard and we'd be no more certain of finishing in the top four or winning something. Those players are kids, who have generally played all of their careers at a lower level than the premier league.

Can expect around 25 starts in the league & 30-35 in all competitions from him for the next couple of years, hopefully. With Ramsey and ratboy backing him up, that should be enough.
