Dreossi is keen for a resolution over M'Vila's future by the end of the week, adding: "We will start negotiating. We hope to find a solution by the end of the week.

"It is complicated. Yann doesn't want to go to a team where he is not completely wanted. There is a real chance for him to stay (in Rennes) this season."

Sahin, Jovetic and a versatile defender. In all honesty can't see many versatile defenders that are good enough who wants to sit on our bench. Rather give Coq more game time to play LB and RB if our options are injured.

The more I see Mvila the more I think we don't need him. Good to have, not must have.

Diaby's a crock, as is Wilshere, as is Rosicky. Coquelin's a kid, Ramsey has a hell of a lot to prove.

If we have to rely on any of them for a long period of time then we have problems. One of those players started on the weekend, and will do so unless we bring someone else in. Sahin should push Diaby to the bench, but then we're still one injury away from it again. M'Vila would mean we have 4 steady players for the 3 midfield spots. we need this kind of competition to avoid running players into the ground, like we did with Song and Arteta last season.

We will play between 50-60 games, the likes of Coquelin and Ramsey will get plenty of minutes. Diaby and Rosicky will be in and out as their injury history dictates, nothing will change there. Both should be nothing more than backups. I don't expect anything from Jack this season.

I'm tired of people pointing merely to number of bodies we have as evidence of depth. judge the squad on the number of "quality and reliable" players we have. How many years of the same rubbish do we need to suffer before people get it? 10, 15, more?

You are being very unrealistic Shady. Nobody can predict the future mate. Bringing another one in like this will firstly be bad for team morale when all of them start complaining of wanting minutes, secondly we won't want to lose Coq who is looking like a more superior player than Yann

We're talking of trying to compete at the top though.

You need quality in the first team, and quality on the bench. That's the minimum requirement.
In a 3 man midfield you will basically need 4 first team quality players. Say, Cazorla, Arteta, M'Vila, and Sahin. All will play 40+ games barring serious injury issues.

Last season we had Ramsey fall in that category, and Rosicky was very close to 40 games :/ Someone like Coquelin is a huge talent and will force his way in, but if the main guys stay fit then I couldn't care less if Diaby, Rosicky, and Ramsey are stuck with 15-20 games, I'd be delighted in fact. If they then want to leave, then fine, we would have proven that they are worth very little to us, and their places can be very easily replaced.

Ox is a CM too these days, so that's Cazorla, Arteta, Ox, and Sahin, with Coquelin to force his way in. Seems fine to me.

In my mind you need 9 players in midfield

3 to start in the prem

3 to start in the fa cup.league cup

3 to start in the Champions league.

Obviously you want to play your first 11 most of the time especially in crunch prem and european games but hectic schedules and tiredness will call for rotation whether players like it or not

If Wenger though that M'vila was a marked improvement on any of our current midfield options we would be negotiating a deal with Rennes right now?
There is no indication that we are though, unless this whole Sahin business is a red herring and we're suddenly going to be presented with M'vila as our next signing.

Agree with Shady 100%.

Plus, I'd rather we lose players based on their inability to get minutes (due stiff competition for places), than we lose them due to a perceived lack of adequate ambition and supporting quality.

You guys are serious about starting different players for different competitions? lol. Play your best team for all games, rotate if they are tired. Simple as.

Tbf, Derossi needs to sort his own future out with Roma before he starts commenting on what's goin on with M'vila.

I get where you guys are coming from, but like it or not Rosicky, Diaby, Ramsey, Wilshere, Oxlade-Chamberlain and Coquelin are somewhat in the reckoning.

Along with the injuries and rawness there's enough talent in that half dozen players to stock two PL first XIs in midfield. And that's before we get to Arteta, Cazorla and Quantum Şahin.

Seems to me that Derossi is dying to cash in on M'vila but that so far the higher bids have been made by either Spurs and Zenit, neither of whom interest M'vila.

I'd guess that if Wenger really wanted him he could sign him tomorrow.
