Great to have a French spine again. Last time that happened Arsenal were class.

Think we'll shift to 442 next season. Just have a feeling with all the forwards and M'vila who has experience playing in that system.

Unfortunately though I agree with Rex that Arsene won't be looking to strengthen the midfield, Ramsey & Diaby need game time.. MVila would reduce that significantly.

He's more defensive than Arteta. But yeah, he could learn a lot. But by his own admission and quoted aspirations (though paraphrased), he wants to be the best DM in the world.

That's exactly the type of attitude this team needs.

We all saw how terrible we looked without Arteta last season. Our midfield was a complete mess.

M'vila looked like a quality passer yesterday. Add a real desire to do the defensive aspect of the job, and I think he'll be a big signing for us

Looks great. Three quality passers and all the type to take defensive responsability. And kind of highlights how much our midfield has deteriorated technically over the past couple of years.

Getting ahead of myself, I know, but I can't wait to watch Arsenal again soon!

I don't know Nela I thought M'vila was just as average as the rest of the French team bar Kos yesterday.
Out of his depth and unable to live with Spain.
It's definitely left me less enthusiastic about our potentially signing him, as opposed to relishing the thought of seeing him alongside Jack and Arteta.
I'm beginning to think I must have missed something in his performance though.
Plus he was playing in a fractured team and he has been injured.
I guess I just want to see something more instant, more exciting from a potential signing.

Y va, tbh I dont know what you expected to see from M'vila in a one of game for a rubbish French team against Spain. Pretty much all of their players looked wank, but we know most of them are actually quality and would be very useful for Arsenal.

Fact is, major summer tournaments dont work as a way to judge a player, good or bad.

That said, I thought M'vila was decent enough yesterday. 1st half passed him by, 2nd half he was pretty good.

I have said though that I don't want to judge him based on that performance but it still leaves an impression, can't help but react to that.
I guess I was hoping rather than expecting to see something really special in him, most especially given the difficult circumstances.

France shouldn't build a spine around this guy, high tempo tackling but constantly bypassed. Mediocre tournament, at best.

But back then, France was one of the, if not THE strongest team in world football. Unlike now.

Doesn't matter, clubs with an English spine have done well enough over the past decade. 😉

With his injury problem leading into the tournament that's not really an indication of anything.

I don't agree he's just a Scott Parker or Mathieu Flamini either; he can do what they do, but I reckon he has much better positional sense and defensive awareness.

Just think he generally understands the game far, far better. You see it in all the different situations he finds himself in, with and without the ball.

Well, a poor season and a poor tournament - both good reasons not to fancy him.

He spent most of the tournament chasing the ball - it's absurd, if we weren't linked with him., I'd be amazed if Arsenal fans would spend quite so much time bending over backward finding excuses. De Rossi, Gilberto, Makalele - this guy isn't fit to lace their boots.

Don't see how you can be so definitive about it. Certainly not based on the Euros anyway, and I doubt you've seen a lot of him for Rennes. Best to reserve judgement until he gets settled at a big club in a proper League.
