So far reports are that M'vila's injury is a sprained ankle.
Think they have to wait 48 hours to assess it properly.
It might actually benefit us if he misses the Euros, given that there is this assumption that he will impress and attract interest from others apart from us.

We won't be signing him. Think we would have done so by now if he was our primary target.

Courtesy of arseblog - M'vila stats as compared to Arteta and Song.

Intercepts more, fouls less and gets dispossessed less than Song - all very commendable and we could definitely benefit from that level of protection in midfield.
I'd like to see how effective any combination out of M'vila, Song, Wilshere and Arteta would be, plenty to work with there.

Mvila playing in ligue 1 as opposed to song in the pl. Mvila would be a good buy but we have more pressing needs to get an attacking midfielder.

Bunch of nonsense comparisons in my opinion. Besides, it's not Song who plays a similar role at Arsenal. It's Arteta.

None of these stats based comparisons really hold up to much scientific scrutiny do they?
Different leagues, different roles within the team etc

I'm not saying M'vila is better than Song or vice versa based on the above, just think those figures support the notion that in a deeper defensive midfield position M'vila looks to have the exact game to make that area less porous.
I think we need that just as much as we need a creative midfielder.

Wilshere's stats are illuminating and pretty damn poor.

They do show that he's not as brilliant playing deep as some seem to think, to be fair. It was a different season and a slightly different role but he was never as good as Arteta from a defensive viewpoint. Think Ramsey is a much better player in that aspect too. Jack's best contribution came when he was allowed to push forward. Would like to see him in an attacking role when he gets back, either out wide or as the playmaker.

I want to ask people why everyone thinks that if M'Villa comes he's going to replace Arteta and that they play the same position

Arteta = All round Central Midfield player

M'Villa = Defensive Midfield Player

Song = I have not yet quite figure out what potion he played last season

They don't play the same way but they're both holding players. They have the same responsibilities in their respective team.

Song is a typical box to box midfielder. Presses high, defends deep.

So Song was the box to box midfielder last season, I must have miss those games where he was the box to box midfield player.

Song is a box to box midfielder, he's deepest when we're defending but pushes forward when we're in possession.
