Well, our "AM" should really be a CM with a normal amount defensive responsibility on the press. Ramsey / neo-Rosicky / Wilshere have all been fairly consistent putting in a shift that way.
But I do want at least one midfielder who wants to make runs into the box.
Its the shape that an AM gives us that I don't like more than anything. Don't think Rozza has been doing enough defensively recently, its too much for him.
I want any of our 3 CMs to be able to make that run you're talking about. If its the same one every time, all you have to do is keep a man on him. We need a more dynamic midfield in general. I think M'Vila, Song, Arteta, Wilshere, and Coquelin all have the dynamism we need. Rozza and Ramsey don't, for me. Their roles when playing as the most attacking mids are too obvious.
The reason why Song has so many assists is because he's the least predictable (to the opposition, not necessarily to us) of our midfielders (sometimes in a bad way, to be fair, but mostly to our benefit). Arteta can pop in with the odd goal out of nowhere from a holding position, Wilshere can burst forward with ultra close control, and M'Vila looks capable of driving from deep himself. Diaby can do it too.
Ramsey seemed like that type of player before his injury (really high workrate, decent tackling, good finishing from range, and the ability to pick out a dangerous, unpredictable pass). But he hasn't shown any signs of getting it back yet. Hopefully he does, because if he fulfills his pre-injury potential, and we sign M'Vila, we'll have a pretty insane midfield as long as we get the discipline and tactics right, which is down to coaching.
I'm just tired of having 2 actual midfielders and one anarchic guy roaming around doing annoying flicks. trying to link the midfield and the attack. I'd rather the link was achieved naturally through a tactical deployment rather than relying on one player to make our game work. (especially when we don't have any world class players for such a crucial position)
