He distributes from the back like Yaya Toure. I love DM's who can play a forward pass consistently from deeper positions without giving the ball away. So effective when you want to start attacks early. One of our weaknesses is our transition from defense to attack. It's way too slow and cumbersome. Yaya Toure is so good at slipping forward passes through midfield lines and finding advanced midfielders like Silva early. Its not just your forwards who need to be supplied, your attacking midfielders need that type of service too.

I've watched M'Vila trying to spray passes around in the last few weeks and most of them have wasted possession, so I've seen the other side of the coin, but, then again, he's having real problems at Rennes as his time there nears and end, so it's not him at his best for sure.

Not a Makelele-like clogger in any way, shape or form though. Clear as day once you've seen 5 minutes of him.

For those who don't know: M'Vila has actually suffered a bit this season in terms of performances by (surprise) going forward a bit too much. In fairness, he is the king of Rennes and the team completely depend on him to act as their shield for the defense, and as the source of their attacks. They also want him to get goals too because Rennes are pretty shit going forward. He also never gets injured (though that'll probably changed) and started looking a bit heavy legged the second half of this season.

For whatever reason, the fans have turned on him because he hasn't been giving 9/10 performances week in, week out (he truly was a beast the season before), and it's obvious that he needed a change. As capi said, the early signing depends a lot on him but I still find this all a little too neat. Yann still has another 2 years I think on his contract, so Rennes do have leverage in keeping him until after the Euros. Unless he really didn't get a better offer from anyone, I find it strange that he signs for Arsenal so early, especially given the huge offer Inter Milan have (supposedly) tabled.

Like I said, if there's nothing news wise here I'll have to consider this probably a load of crap, but again no smoke without a fire, etc...

Easily the best signing we could make this summer. Loved him from the first time i saw him. This kid makes a team better.

Basically every major newspaper is running with this. £17m, 60k a week, deal nearly done.

Hope they're not just hedging their bets and hoping the Arsenal blogger's info's correct. (But they probably are)

his passing looks crisp and well weighted. they glide along the floor, easy to receive. didnt see him under too much pressure, so hard to tell how good his awareness is. he won't have that long in the ball in the premiership - almost seemed like defences thought he was a CB at times when they just backed off him and allowed him to stride into midfield.

The fact that our midfield has literally fallen to pieces without Arteta is more than enough reason to sign this guy.

M´Vila is a great passer, but he suffers big time from Gerrard syndrome regarding Hollywood big diagonals. He does hit them with pretty good accuracy I have to say.

Klaus, I too feel that Coquelin could well turn out the better player of the two, but he looks a year or two short IMO compared to M´Vila. Also, Coquelin likes to go forward and it doesn´t seem as if Wenger ever wants to curb that enthusiasm in a player...

Also, Coquelin's versatility will ensure he gets a good number of games.
