I think Song is a mediocre passer, at best, just as capable of lobbing the ball into the stands as he is onto Robin's left boot. He's still a more dangerous creative passer than M'Vila in my opinion (watched a bit of him lately in case you're wondering why I'm suddenly offering an opinion on his game!) and more likely to do something unexpected that creates a goalscoring opportunity.
As a sitting midfielder, Song made sense to me. He's big, strong, good in the tackle, and covered the centebacks well - I liked him there and thought he could be really important to us in that position, even if I did think he had a couple of weaknesses that he had to iron out to become a top player there. In the role he currently plays I don't like him much at all, of course he has some things he's good at and is important to us, but I think it comes at a cost, because he's a poor player in other respects.
