This is becoming a more and more common story in French media (M'Vila to Arsenal). Yann considers Wenger a great manager, and he really likes the English league. Still, Rennes have no obligation to sell him for cheap - M'Vila still has 2 years on his contract (I think), is definitely going to the Euros, and there will probably be a few takers.

Yeah, pretty much.

As for M'Vila, it has to be said that he's had a dip in form this season compared to last (where he was truly imperious and many had him in their Ligue 1 team of the year). I agree with some of the skeptics that I don't think Wenger will pay over the odds on a defensive midfielder though, especially one who doesn't offer much offensively.

If France get anywhere these Euros (and I'm not expecting it, although we definitely have the players to get far) then that will be that, I think. Unless M'Vila refuses to sign for anyone else (unlikely), then Rennes won't sell beforehand. Yann has said publicly today that he wants to play (so probably not interested in Madrid/Barca), and like I already mentioned he has respect for Wenger, and likes the English league. I think he would fit in perfectly well to be honest. This is a guy who loves a tackle.

We need a top-class attacking player. Single most important thing in my opinion. Podolski isn't that signing.

For Wenger, that would be too much.

For us, if our intention is to mount a proper challenge for the title, as well as look beyond the 2nd round/quarter final of the Champion's League, then most definitely, not.

To be honest, like Klaus, I want a marvelous attacker. I want Hazard or that cockatoo-headed fool Neymar. Someone on that plane. I want a player who can take over control like Afrojack or Robert Pires.

But let's look at transfer history and be realistic. Our definition of splurge is Adebayor, Diaby and Walcott. Given that, would M'Vila and Podolski be enough?

Looking at our history it's unlikely that we'll sign M'Vila for anything close to £20 million too. I'd be fuming if we did, though. That money needs to be invested in the attacking end first and foremost. We need Podolski and at least one more player. Maybe two. We already strengthened the team centrally with Arteta last summer.

The closest thing to readymade star we're getting is Podolski. Next season more responsibility will rest on AOC, Ryo and Gervinho. Our main transfer job this season should be getting rid of the ridiculous mass of deadwood at the club. One of the benefits of Wenger's approach is that we'll make money even on our flops.

Streamlining is the word of the summer.
