In the middle of a project crunch at the moment and realising for the umpteenth time that I treat my job like I used to treat school and university assignments.

Leave everything to the last minute, work like blazes and during the late nights I always think "hey, this stuff would actually be interesting if I put effort in more often" 🙂

Plus ça change ...

I've put a lot of effort into the last few years to move away from working like that. You get extra energy when the pressure is on, but the stress isn't good for me in the end. A lot more focused on not procrastinating.

I don't think it'll keep working if I have kids, it's ok until that happens perhaps.

I've noticed there are a few different kinds of job in this world: "project" jobs, "reactive" jobs, and jobs with fixed expectations ... I'm glad I get to work on projects rather than just waiting for someone to need me or request service.

I've have a read through this whole thread, but anyone here work in sales or marketing? Applying for a job heavily reliant on this, and got an phone interview, so could do with some advice, as I have no experience in it.

i'm an account manager, worked quite a few sales-type gigs in my time. if you're talking to a hiring sales manager, they may ask you to pitch their product to them or do a roleplay with you. do some research on the services they offer and draft up what you feel are the key selling points of their offer, and have that on hand for the interview.

they'll usually ask you what motivates you to sell/be a salesperson. have something snappy ready for that question.

I went to a group sales interview once, didn't make the first cup 😆

They look for people who can talk the talk, but it depends what you're selling.

I finally finished my degree in law and political science this summer, and now I've gone into the final year of a bachelor's in economics and management. Very difficult, since I haven't done the first 2 years of the degree, but it's way more interesting than law. This economics degree also guarantees me a place in the master's degree that I want to do next year!

I already have a baccalauréat in literature, so that kind of covers other areas :p

It isn't one degree, I'll have 2 different bachelor's. I have a bachelor's in Law and political science, which I finished in May. That degree has allowed me to go straight into the final year of a bachelor's in economics and management this year, so I'll have a second bachelor's degree next May. Then after that I'll do a master's in economics, banking, and international finance, with a specialization in capital markets.
