seems to me that you could send teams of riot police out with orders to shoot rubber bullets at anyone stealing or destroying property. onlookers aren't an issue, it's a free country, but you need to impose costs on destructive activity. right now, it seems the thugs believe (probably correctly) that they can act with impunity.

Hard to actually believe this.
I was in London the week before last, those names and places sound familiar.
It was beautiful and sunny and calm.

Terrifying how easily these guys have managed to cause such carnage and chaos.
They're not armed, they're not terrorists and they seem to have put whole parts of the city under seige.

I guess you know not to venture outside asa.

Police aren't interested. Couple of weeks ago the government were talking about cuts to their budget and their manpower (which will certainly be a hot topic after this) and they are getting 'done' left right and centre at the moment with the fallout from the phone hacking saga and a few other indiscretions. Risk is too high for literally no reward.

So a few places go up in smoke and some shit gets stolen; nobody cares.

crazy, but i guess you're right. this is cynical of me, but you'd think they might start to care once they got into islington and other nicer areas.

A building got burned earlier and 26 families were made homeless. Not trivial at all, at least it shouldn't be. To anyone.

And I can only speak for the Policemen I know, but they are seething with what's going on and are eager to do something about it. Maybe the top brass see it differently, I don't know.
