But why? We lack penetration from central midfield, whether it's eye-of-the-needle passing or a powerful guy running through defenders. Oxlade might be able to give us a bit of both. He's confident running with the ball, is powerful and can pass some. He seems better suited for that role than Ramsey, but I wouldn't be able to say yay or nay for sure without seeing him there.

Agreed Captain. Chamberlain's been terrific out wide - creating, terrorising and scoring.
No reason to mess with that.

It's also where Robert Pires preferred to play. Means nothing. We need Chamberlain wide in this team, at least for the time being.

Pires was awesome centrally for France one summer

If we'd have played the old 4-3-3 back then Bobbi would have played through the middle. And he'd have been brilliant too.

Worth giving him a chance through the middle, maybe as a plan B option with two wingers either side if we're desperate for a goal or something. May not happen while he's being eased into the team though.

Bergkamp would have played where RVP plays now, flanked by Henry and Freddie. Then Vieira, Bert and Bobbi in midfield. Happy frikkin days!

Bergkamp together with Henry very much played like Cesc did last year. Very little has changed really.

i disagree, the way we play is very different. the automatic patterns and combinations we play (or don't play) are totally different.

as for chamberlain, i guess he has the attributes to play as an AM, but he gives us exactly what we need out wide, so i don't see why we'd move him now. he might not be as sloppy as ramsey, but that's a marginal improvement, while we'd have a gaping hole out wide.

i also haven't seen enough of his awareness under pressure to gauge how well he'd protect the ball when played centrally.
