We need to win against Stoke. A win there will make 3rd place safe. I won't settle for 4th place whatsoever.

Dont think we NEED to beat Stoke at all. Reckon we'll get 3rd even with from 4 pts from our last 3 games. Newcastle are the only team playing consistently well and they will drop a lot of points with their run in.

We just need to sign a few players in the January transfer window (Reyes, Arshavin).

Something to get the players going in the business end of the season.

The league season doesn't really start until March

If you're 8 points clear in December then you can still end up with nothing, just ask Man City.

If you're 8 points clear in March then you'll most likely end up winning the whole thing.

I would like us next season to just keep touch at the top of the table, maybe 2 or 4 points behind by January, make a big signing and then make a real push for the title.

If Spurs don't make top four (and they won't), I will laugh my arse off. All we heard was how good they are, how they kept their players, how they made brilliant signings to complete the squad, how they have done it on a budget, blah, blah, blah.

10 points clear of us in February before our game against them.

Funny how even being 10 points clear of one team isn't a guarantee of anything in this league.

I'll check and see how many points they were ahead of Newcastle at that point

Watching highlights of Newcastle Stoke.
Great work from Ben Arfa prior to Cabaye's goal and beautiful pass from Cabaye for Cisse's goal but Stoke defenders were just standing and watching.
What's the betting that they'll be ploughing tackles into us at the Britannia.

Newcastle are in a zone. They'll keep winning. They got the perfect winter re-energizing boost with the arrival of Papis and the emergence of Ben Arfa. If the latter doesn't makes France's 23 this June, it will be a travesty. Should make it ahead of Nasri for sure.

I hope not. I'm not too worried about them catching us, but I really want them to hold off Spurs and Chelsea.

Newcastle have done very well recently, but their last 6 games have all been considerably easier than some of the ones they've got coming up. But hey, if you lads really think they're gonna beat Wigan, Chelsea and Everton away and City at home then that's fair enough.

Dont think either of you would actually put a serious amount of money on that happening though, would you? ;-)

No, I believe they will keep on winning. Rationally their chances are small but their form is great and they have no injuries. Football is not played on paper. I think they're looking at seven points at least from their last four games, but we'll see.

Ok, well 7 points isn't really what I read from "keep winning". They've done well to have won 6 relatively straight forward games. The four they've got coming up, especially the Chelsea and City ones are considerably tougher. Personally think 7 points is about the best they can hope for, and even that means we'll only need 4 from our last 3 to stay ahead of them.

Seven points at least. I could easily see them win all four games. Chelsea are pretty crap and will be tired what with Champions League. City probably don't have much more to play for at that point. Wigan are the tricky ones. Everton have improved massively but Newcastle are a better team on most positions. But we'll see soon enough. Main concern is ourselves. As long as we win I don't really care what Newcastle and Spurs do.

I can't see Chelsea qualifying for the CL without winning it from here, but the fact they've got a six-pointer against Newcastle does assist them.

I do feel like their outside chance of stealing the fourth place qualifying spot means we need to plan absolutely to finish third.
