Yeah thats the sort of mentality that didn't get Arteta or Mertesacker here 3 or 4 years earlier.

We should definitely be pulling out all the stops to get the player(s) we need. That should be our attitude every single transfer window, rather than the laissez faire, wait until a player falls in to our laps bollox we usually do.

BUT, it is a fact that no matter how hard you try, it is very difficult to sign quality, high profile or proven international players in january.

21 games (out of 38 ) into the season, this is what Arsenal's overall record says

Our position overall
14th in goals conceded. Only 6 teams have conceded more goals than us. Even if you halved our defeat to United, we'd still be amongst the top 10 in goals conceded. Away, we concede 2.3 goals per game. Take away United, we concede 1.7 goals per game away. However you look at it, not pretty.

20th in away goals concded. Again, half our defeat to United, and we are still amongst the top 4 in goals conceded.

10th in away points won. Teams like Stoke, Everton and West Brom have better away records than us.

Tied 7 - 11th for losses. 7 defeats. That's 1 defeat in every 3 games we play. Think about that. United are 1 in 7 and Citeh 1 in 10. We lose every 3rd game.

18th for away defeats . Only QPR and Bolton have more away defeats. Even Blackburn, with their embattled manager, are better.

6th in home goals scored. We've scored half as many home goals as United and City, and far less than Chelsea and Spurs. Fortunately, our home defense counters this.

Positives
3rd in home goals conceded. We have been relatively solid at home. We concede 0.6 goals per game at home.

2nd in away goals scored. Our away games just seem to be more open. Goals going in at both ends

Overall, it appears our away games have been more open, with better attacking play and poorer defense than when we play at home.

Why would you take away the Utd massacre? You can't write it out of history like it never happened- it did and it's important we all draw the correct conclusions from it namely, that Wenger is a stubborn unprepared tactically naive clown.

Great stats Cali. Looking at those I fell we've been lucky to stay within touching distance of 4th with the shower of shit we've experienced so far. It's clear we have to pick up our form and consistency like we did in October/November after the poor start of the season. Through that period we went on a good run, playing consistently week in, week out and I felt we could match anyone in the league at the time. We've lost our mojo in the last couple of months and we need to restore it fast and go on another strong run. After Manure next week (as I expect nothing good from this game), we have Bolton, Blackburn and Sunderland, matches that are very winnable and would set us up nicely for the Spuds game which for me is our game of the season.

I'm pre-empting the inevitable. Some Wenger apologist is going to come out and say the United result really skews our statistics. I wanted to show that although the match itself is an outlier in terms of the number of goals conceded, removing it does not change the fact that we have been shocking.

Instead of talking about these issues, our manager is ranting about referees, scheduling conspiracies and the need to remove transfer windows.

You could take the stats from before the window closed and after it, compare the 2 and then use it as a stick to beat Wenger with either.

At this stage does us or Chelsea getting a draw mean we've dropped 2 points or gained 1, I'm not sure any more.

If we dont get CL, I say we get rid of every single player aged over 23 in the summer, cut the wage bill in half, reduce ticket prices, and just have a go with all our kids pressure free. Enjoy the ride.
