Porter was easily Spences biggest test so far in his professional career. Garcia was a bigger name but far too small while Brook is the other obvious name since he beat Porter but he was damaged goods after the GGG loss, and he still held Spence close.
I'd be surprised if Spence underestimated Porter, as I alluded to earlier it's almost impossible to look great against someone like Porter. His accuracy is poor which means he wastes a lot of energy and scores poorly with judges who look for clean punches. He's not very dynamic going forward either, but he's incredibly well trained and he's tough as nails. For someone who's not explosive like Spence that's always going to be a tough match up, his best weapon being his jab and his own conditioning aren't as useful against someone like Porter as they would be elsewhere. I think Porter came in pretty confident too while Spence possibly had in mind that he couldn't finish Garcia off.
Either way great fight from two great fighters. If ESJ can't land Pacquiao he should give Porter a rematch.
