I'm over Wenger and want him out, but "lucky" and "glorified talent scout" don't do him justice in the slightest.
Wenger deserves to be criticized but it is exactly these flippant descriptions asssigned to him that i find exasperating myself.
I find certain decisions he makes appalling, but there was certainly nothing lucky about picking up a flop winger from an Italian team, a 26 year old from Ligue 1 and a young Vieira. They didn't come because of connections, they came because he believed they could be as good as they became and he certainly had a role to play in them realizing their potential.
I don't think anyone can be sure of the financial restrictions placed on Wenger since we moved stadium. It is impossible to know what we would have achieved with another manager in charge and what the implications would have been had another manager come in, spent a lot of Arsenal money and yet won nothing.
I don't think Wenger deserves any praise for keeping us in the top four all these years but i don't believe there is another manager who could have done it with the little money that Wenger has spent.
We have a conservative board and no one is privy to what goes on inside the boardroom. That said moving into a new stadium was a risk, they just didn't want to amplify the risk by getting in a new manager who would spend the millions and yet win nothing and may be even not bring Champions League football.
Wenger is probably our Dark Knight, a hero that we deserve but one that we don't need ๐
