it would be in the players union's interest to reveal their salaries. in american sports that info is public. owners love to chat shit about their expenses and that's taken off the table immediately when it's public. the british media is naturally inclined to sensationalize so giving them the freedom to lie about your wages and ultimately make you look bad to the fans is another reason to get that info out there. if the union didn't want to do it, i would post a copy of my pay slip with the wages, taxes and contributions to your NIH that i won't benefit from, etc there for all to see on twitter. and what better way to know where you stand among your peers than with cold hard facts and not assumptions.

Europeans aren't as open to talking about money as Americans. Can't see players being happy to have their wages publicised and as such they would never push for their union to reveal such information.

Auclair says that he thinks Nasri situation is a case of brinkmanship gone wrong. Echoes my own thoughts on the situation.

Nasri/his advisors flirted with the interest of United/City and hence burnt his bridges with Arsenal? It doesn't make sense to me.

I dunno about burning his bridges, but I reckon him and his 'advisors' expected the club to cave to his demands by now.

Nasri enters contract talks, they go well, everyone believes agreement has been met and it is just the formality of getting the contract printed and ratified.
Nasri subsequently begins sounding out deals at other clubs.
Nasri comes back and instead of signing, asks for more money.
Arsenal are taken aback by this development but accept it.
Arsenal hear from another source that Nasri was sounding out offers after apparently agreeing terms with them.
Bad blood starts to develop.
Nasri wants to stay but continues the brinkmanship.
Arsenal dig their heels in.
Negotiations become pointless.
Situation develops until it comes to a head (whatever that may be; selling, signing etc.)

I'm not saying that is what happened, but it's a scenario.

My personal opinion remains that Nasri wants to sign at Arsenal and also wants a significant wage rise. I think we can still keep him but it will take a compromise from both parties and that won't necessarily happen.

Sounds like a plausible scenario to me Capi, give or take. John Cross was certainly saying that we had a deal agreed just waiting to be signed by both parties after the season had finished. He actually said that Nasri had verbally agreed to it. I also remember reading around Dec/Jan time that a deal was very close, I think one paper-The Sun??- actually reported that he'd signed.

I dont think there's been an awful lot of integrity on Nasri's side during this whole process.

You could be right Capi, and people are paid good money to make sure things like this go smoothly.

And not just on Nasri's side Tim, look it's Flamini all over again- If the player wanted out he'd be gone already, the fact that he's still talking shows that he is interested in staying he just wants more money why not give it to him, extend his contract?
If the situation is the same next year we can always sell him for more then.

Nasri has not provoked me yet, and 90% of his story is idle tabloid chatter, so I'm hoping we sign him soon

The club has spent the last 18 months putting almost every first team player on a long term contract. For some reason neither Nasri nor Sneezey were a priority at the time. In my mind both those players have been among the brightest prospects and should have been among the first players attended to. We almost lost Sneezey and we look as if we can lose Nasri. The whole situation certainly could have been handled better by the club.

The Flamini and Nasri situations are quite different because Flim Flam left for free. Looks like we'll either extend with Nas or get £20m +. As long as that money is all invested in bringing in new first team capable players I wont have an issue with how the club have gone about this business.

They have been negotiating with Nasri since last summer (with two years left on his contract) and Chesney hadn't even played a first team game yet.

You could see a long time ago that Sneezey is a special talent. To put the club in the situation where he almost walked is borderline criminal.

As for Nasri - apparantly the club didn´t try hard enough to get him to commit last summer. If they had, we wouldn´t be in the mess we are in now. The irony of it all is that had they made the effort then he would have been on a long term contract now with quite a lot less in wages than it will take for him to sign now.
