Time for Gazidis to step up. We can't have another Flamini situation hanging over our season. He and Wenger need to be strict with Nasri and give him three choices.

Nela, 1 is not a realistic option. It's just not implementable. So it's down to 2 or 3, and even then, if he refuses to go outside of England, we might need consider a local bidder.

If they're ruthless enough, they can do it. If Nasri goes into the season without a new deal, there is no way Arsenal should have him in the starting XI so that Nasri can spend the season playing for a megadeal with another club. All the other wide players should get playing time ahead of him. Nasri hasn't even shown any consistancy yet. And if he's not playing regularly at the top of his game, he won't be able to get as much if he signs for someone else next summer and he knows that.

United banished Nani for months a couple of seasons back. Then voila, he's back signs a new deal and shows better form than ever. Gazidis needs to get tough. I'm sick of our board beeing so meek.

Nani wasn't a sure starter and arguable player of the season prior to that course of action.

With Nela on this. No way he should get a single game if he refuses to sign a new deal AND refuses a transfer abroad.

I'm not sure I see the point of keeping him and leaving him on the bench.
If he does plan on playing out of his skin for us next season in order to secure a mega deal elsewhere then we at least get the immediate benefit of any good form that he will show (as we did with Flamini).

It's a bit of a nightmare scenario whatever way you view it but if we do keep him in these circumstances we can't afford to exclude him from the starting eleven.
I'd prefer to get rid of him completely than see us do that.

I see how this getting tough show him who's boss approach will appease those who are angry that he's not doing as we want him to, but ultimately I can't see the benefit of depriving ourselves of one of our best players particularly if he's going to be motivated to play out of his skin.

The only card we hold is selling Nasri and even that isn't a strong position. We have been strung along and are in the shit now.

For what it's worth, I believe Nasri wants to stay and will stay if we offer him the money he wants, so identifying a similar scenario at ManU recently, it is more akin to the Rooney situation at the start of the season rather than anything that they have done with Nani.

For me it depends on what Nasri is asking for.

If he's asking for 110 k a week, I say fine, just give it to him. Just use the wages from getting rid of Rosicky or someone like that.

If he's asking for something crazy like 150k a week after only delivering for 6 months, then no. That would destabilize the entire wage system at the club.

Not overly bothered really. Stay, go/ pay him, don't pay him; I don't care.

Last player worth being concerned about not signing was Titi and I can't even think who it was before that. Nasri is just a footnote as far as Arsenal goes and I'm completely indifferent to his situation.

If you're going down the path of money solving the problem then you have to countenance giving Nasri close enough to what he's asking for regardless of whether it destabilizes the wage structure or not.

It's already been destabilized by virtue of the fact that he's refusing to sign based on the original offer.

At some stage we have to decide whether keeping the core of our very best players is more important than our tight salary control.

Going from 90 to 110 k/week is very different from going from 90 to 150+ k/week. I even read somewhere that he was asking for 190 k, which is crazy(and I doubt it's true, it just sounds too extreme).

If there's one thing specific to French people it's that they never discuss or disclose their salaries in public.
It's a bit of a taboo.
Therefore I'm disinclined to believe any of the figures being bandied about in relation to Nasri's supposed demands.

I've no idea what he's asking for.

If it's £150k then it's probably close to the amount he could earn at any other top club.

If we are serious about competing we have to realise that the wages that we pay our best players are below the going rate and we will continue to lose players because of this.

The way I'm thinking at the moment I'd be in favour of paying squaddies far less and top players more.
Create inequality and give those at the bottom of the pile something to strive for.

I agree with a lot of what your saying. I wouldn't be against big bumps for Cesc or even Rvp. I just don't think Nasri has done enough to warrant being in that category. He's shown that he has the potential to perhaps, but you don't want to give out a massive contract on the basis of form that lasted for just 6 months. When it mattered most, Nasri didn't deliver so there's a lot of unknowns in terms of how good he really is.

It is all quite subjective that's for sure.

I'd say you're not alone Nela in thinking that Nasri would not be good value for £150k a week.

You can't do that unfortunately. Pandev was allowed to terminate his contract and leave Lazio for free when they tried that with him. Not sure whether it was a Fifa ruling or just Lega Calcio, but it set a dangerous precedent.

i find that ruling ridiculous (assuming the player is paid), but dont really want to get into that side issue.
