What makes you think any of them are ready for the first team? They'll play plenty, in the reserves, on loan, and if they surpass all expectations, they might even get some time off the bench.

I'm sure they have, but if that boy plays a minute of meaningful first team football for us, then my names Arturo Lupoli. Lad's a decent prospect, but there's lads of Akpom's quality in dozen's of academies, nothing special about the boy at all. He'll make a decent career but not at our level, that's for sure.

I'm not really convinced by Akpom either. Looks a fringey prospect, as far as what I've seen goes.

He's head and shoulders the best striker to come from our academy. Has some outstanding qualities and a really strong all round game. And he's a goal scorer, has that knack in and around the box that's so hard to learn.

What would you say are his outstanding qualities Ricky?

He seems strong all around (albeit at youth level) but I've seen little that I'd describe as outstanding. But I've not seen him a lot.

He'd have to be - the best striker we've produced for the last 15 years is Nicklas Bendtner, after all.

Personally, I think we've seen his ilk come & go over the last decade, he looks good at his level, but he still has a long way to go before he is even a fringe player in the first team. He might make it, has as much chance as most, but with so far for him still to go, well, we'll see.

And, for what it's worth, Aliadiere was better at the same age.

just a guess. we always hear about these "amazingly talented" kids at arsenal, but how many has actually developed into quality players? until they play fairly regularly for the first team, i really couldn't care less about any of them.

That's true Kel, but I believe foreign talents we bring in at this age have a higher chance of succeeding.

There are a few who are nailed on to be going to first team in our academies though. Bellerin is one for me. I don't think its all about talent though. Its about making use of their limited opportunities coupled with the fact that the position they play in is a huge factor as well. Vela was talented and is now a key player for the 4th place La Liga team, but couldn't cut it here cause of the system we play.

Another factor I think is that we loan too little players out. People like Eisfeld should have been on loan last year. Olsson, Akpom, Bellerin, Toral etc should be on loan this year. Chelsea had 15 players out on loan and most had a good spell at their respective clubs.

Anyway Ricky, I do remember hearing you rave about Afobe in the same way too last time. How does Akpom compare to you?
