Neither of those players are top 30 in the world right now.

But anyway, has anyone seen the alleged leaked details of Jay Bothroyd's contract offer from QPR?

You work it out. 😆

Player Jay Bothroyd
Term 2 Years ( compulsory option for 3rd year if QPR are in Premier League
and the player makes 19 appearances in the 2013/2014 season ).
Salary £25,000 per week ( including S.O.F ) = £1,300,000.
Appearance £2,500 per game ( named in 18 man squad )
Bonus £250,000 for each season QPR remain in the Premier League ( payable at the end of each season )
£2,500 per game ( named in 18 man squad ) if QPR remain in Premier League ( payable at the end of each season )
Relegation If QPR are relegated in the 2011/2012 season then the player will be allowed to leave for the price of £1,250,000.
The player will receive £250,000 from the £1,250,000.
Buy-Out The player will have a buy-out price of £2,500,000. This will be applicable at the end of the 2011/2012 season if QPR remain in the Premier League.
Agents Fee £130,000 per year (£260,000) as per representation agreement.
£25,000 payable each year QPR are in Premier League.

(Can't comment on it's validity)

Very confusing, but it's clear the player makes our like a bandit whichever way you look at it.

Well, the interesting points are (if they stay in the league):

  • Appearance bonus is 20% of weekly wage.
  • Season bonus is c.20% of annual wage. (note that it isn't related to appearances)
  • Agents fee is 10% of wage and bonus and it's paid by the club

Also, note that there is no goal bonus.

Jesus, football agents have it ridiculously good.

Not true.
What about Wright, Bergy, Suker, Overmars, Wiltord........

None of them were amongst "the world's 20-30 best established players" at the point that we signed them.

Yes, even Bergkamp...

I disagree.

Bergkamp was a big name certainly but football has changed a lot since then.

Then a name like Bergkamp could have been bought by any of Newcastle, Everton, Aston Villa etc. and he would have gone there too. There was some parity, the league was far more competitive in a number of ways.

Now most of these historically famous and successful teams can neither afford players from the top bracket on their own nor would any top bracket player want such a move.

Bergkamp had a name developed at Ajax and had quality but back in 1995 his club football was awful and strictly second tier in an Italian league boasting some of the best players around.

Capi is right.

He wasn't even considered one of the top thirty players in Serie A at the time, big name or not. It wasn't quite Shevchenko at Chelsea, but they made fun of him in both newspapers and on television. Not even the Inter fans liked him.

Being at Arsenal and working with a manager that used him to his strengths brought out the best of his game again, just like it brought out the best of players like Vermaelen, Sagna and Pires. Whether they were considered top european class at the time they signed or not was never really relevant.

Andre Villas-Boas is set to gazump Arsenal in the race for Bolton’s Gary Cahill – on the advice of John Terry.

😆
The boss.

They're welcome to Cahill if we manage to get Subotic and rid ourselves of Bendtner in one deal.
Though that just sounds too perfect to be true.

That's from the BBC Gossip Column, which also says Liverpool are trying to sign Wayne Bridge as their starting left back - and Arsenal fans are worried about Gibbs!

And rightly so.

Player power is going to be an even bigger issue at Chelsea next season I think. Axe needs to fall on one or more of the protected core of Mourinho's team.

Liverpool have had a 20 mill bid accepted for Downing. What is the world coming to. At least it assures us not getting him, not that I thought we ever would.

😆 Twenty million! The old man is running that club to the ground.
