I'd rather he went to Real Madrid.
1) It would mean that one of their really good players potentially becomes available. Not that we are likely to bite, but who knows what scraps might fall our way directly or indirectly
2) The last thing I want to see is Chelsea finally have a fantista on board. I think dull and efficient when I think Chelsea. The reason Abramovich keeps firing coaches is because nobody is
a) winning the champions league and
b) doing so in style.

Varanne must be extremely good for Real Madrid to fight tooth and nail for him.

Downing for that money is crazy. Can't believe Aston Villa look like getting £40M for Ashley Young and Stewart Downing - market is mental right now.

I think Ash Young was £15 mill. I'd say that's a fair price for him. Downing is NOT worth more than £10m.

Some news outlets say it's £15m, some say it's £20M, a lot of money for a player like Young, but I suppose in this market it is what it is. He's also reportedly on £130,000 a week.

Young is 2nd in assist for the last 4 or 5 seasons only to Cesc. He is definitely a class player

We should have met Villa´s demands and tried to sign him. Of course he may still have chosen Man U and 130k per week, but we should have really tried!

That's £20 million for Johnson, £19 million for Downing and £35 million for Carroll. In other words they've wasted almost £70 million trying to turn themselves into a poor man's Newcastle.

Hilarious. I mean it could still work out fine but the fees just don't justify. 70m could buy them Aguero and De Rossi + still having spare cash.

It really couldn't though. Similar to the position we seem to find ourselves in right now, the very best players don't want to come, so they have to find different targets. In some cases they've done well, in others, not so much.

I know, I mean in a hypothetical way. Still they could get much much better players for those fees if you get what I mean. Even Newcastle is doing much better than them in the transfer market for less fees but quality players.

I don't think players like Aguero, Toulalan, Falcao would reject us anyway. Its us who are showing very little ambitions despite a 6 year barren run. In most top clubs, alarm bells would be ringing and there would be changes galore.

Thankfully Arsenal are a little more measured than that. 😉

We'll have to wait and see on Liverpool. Remember it's Comoli that is the orchestrator of all their recent moves, and he has a very impressive track record of sourcing good players, players that go on to be worth more money than the club paid for them.
