It's the same story with Nasri as it is with our young prospects; we have to pay what the mark dictates or they will leave and find someone else who will.
Bullshit! firstly what exactly has been our benefit in having them here and secondly most of them won't get the wages we pay elsewhere, because most aren't good enough to get into the sorts of clubs who can afford those wages.
You can only dictate your pay if you have something to offer that is rare. Nasri is in that category no doubt but he isn't deserving of Cesc level money because his talent isn't that scarce! Like Klaus and others have said it's only because we let his contract run down that he has us over a barrell.
We let his contract run down? Are you joking? Get in the real world. Do you think Villa let Ashley young's contract run down, or Bolton with Gary Cahill?
It's the same with Nasri as it is with any young player with great potential, they get paid for what they can become, not what they currently are. That's the way the market works. It happens at just about every top club out there.
As an example, it was reported at the time United signed Anderson, that he had signed a 4 year deal worth £40,000 a week. He has since signed a contract extension, presumably for more money, United know he is not currently worth what they're are paying him, and certainly wasn't worth 40K a week at 19, but if they don't stump up that cash when they identify a talent, then they don't get him, and if they don't continue to up his wages to match the market, then he will leave. It is that simple.
In order to have a policy of buying talented young players you have to take a gamble on how good you think they can be, and that gamble involves paying them more than they are currently worth.
How else do you go about signing and keeping talented young players? (Fergie and Wenger might like to know!)
