We have money but not enough to make a difference at the sharp end, which is where we are lacking.

On Nasri; I want him to stay but only in so much as his departure weakens the squad. As I said already, I'm sure that we could get an equivalent player in with the figures that we are talking about but the standing still has to stop; we need blockbuster signings on top of what we have.

When we signed reyes I really thought it would be a sign of things to come. Splashing big on the more talked up stars. Instead we went younger and cheaper

Nasri should be paid whatever it takes to keep him here. Even if we pay him what he wants he could make more somewhere else. We all know that, and he damn well knows it too.
We need to add to the talent already at the club, not get rid of one of our top 5 players. If we want top players here we need to pay them accordingly.

Nasri was one of our better players in 09-10, played above his level of the last six months more or less all season.

He seemed to bear the brunt of criticism for us not having a striker by virtue of being the guy people gave the ball to in forward positions.

Captain, upon reading this, I think you and I are more closely-aligned on the Nasri issue. Yes, I think he is replaceable at the end of the day, but I really want to keep him because we need to retain our better players while shedding the trash.

If Nasri was playing on the invincible squad or even the one that had a fit Adebayor, Hleb and Rosicky, I'd be fine with him walking.

I agree and thats exactly why we should be holding onto Nasri for a few quid extra. If he goes we need to sort out the wings and another back up for Cesc. Thats more hassle than a few thousand extra is worth.

Would he be on the bench at Barca? I rate him as better than Pedro and Affellay anyway.

I completely disagree that we have players within who can replace him. Theo I like alot but he's a very different player and he's injury prone and almost never plays more than 60 minutes. Shava is a player in decline, ideally I'd keep him but if wages are such an issue I'd be alot happier replacing him than Nasri. There's a very good reason Nas has been ahead of those 2 this season.

I think its difficult to say who in our team falls away when things get tough TBH. They pretty much all did this season.

It's the same story with Nasri as it is with our young prospects; we have to pay what the mark dictates or they will leave and find someone else who will.

He finished 09/10 season much stronger than he started it, so making out as if it's a constant feature in his game to drop away towards the end of the season is nonsense.

I remember thinking the exact opposite. In a few of our big defeats over the last few seasons - Barca and United, in particular, I felt Nasri really showed he had a lot of bottle and character.

Plus he's scored in all 3 games against Tottenham this season, scoring 4 in total.

You do if you've only got one year left on your contract. Unfortunately that's the case here, and it's sort of our own fault. We should have extended his deal a year ago. Now his agent has the better hand.

Nasri must have confirmed interest from another club to say that he's holding tough on this?

I'm sure we've tried hard for a long time to extend his contract, Klaus. If a player won't sign, what can you do? Nasri knows, and has known, exactly what he's doing.
