Sure, it's true, but those fair-weather fans of United aren't numerous enough to represent the gap in revenue from us to them.
Kinda like the idea of a "plastic half-life" - if a fan has a half-life of N seasons, they're 50% likely to have transferred their allegiance after N seasons of mediocrity.
My estimate is United have plenty of fans with a half-life of less than a decade, but not enough to suggest we could close the revenue gap in a decade even if we, against expectation, manage to get in front of them in the trophy count over that period.
