Arsenal fans have to realise that we aren't going to make the commercial revenues that ManU do, not this season and probably not any season for the next decade at the absolute, wishful minimum. Comparison with them is pretty pointless but we should certainly be looking to better teams like Tottenham and Chelsea.

But the effects of success are indeed exaggerated. Liverpool has been rubbish for years now but still have the second highest following in Asia after the Mancs.

Long term success similar to what Ferguson has achieved has a huge impact - and that's one reason Liverpool have such a huge following as well, their success in the 70s and 80s.

One of our concerns has to be that given i) our high ticket prices and ii) the fact that we aren't winning any trophies is how big a risk do we face with regards to creating and retaining new young fans. We can't just depend on support that is handed down from father to son. How many young kids right now who should be adoring the Arsenal are more enamored of Chelsea or United because of those teams' recent success?

Dunno about globally but Chelsea is the worst supported club in London by a country mile.

Capi's talking in terms of our commercial position and revenue, and he's entirely correct I think. We can't shift the marketplace by that much in a decade.
