What a pity this match ended this way. The tournament would have taken an exciting turn had the Aussies won here.

Not the way I wanted to do it but it will do. We have now won (OK, technically not "won" yet) the Ashes 4 times since Arsenal last won a trophy, with a chance to make it at least 5 too. Shame for Australia but I'm still fairly confident Root, Bell, Prior and Broad could have done a similar job to what they did in Auckland in March and batted out most of the next 2 sessions. I thought if we avoided the follow on we'd be ok and that's proved correct. Following on we'd likely have lost as there would have been time to take the 10 wickets and knock off the few runs (if any) needed.

Yet more controversy with the DRS with Pietersen. What is the point of using hotspot if they still going to give it out when nothing shows? He was absolutely adamant he hadn't hit it and it wasn't the first time in the series someone has been given out with no mark there. So much drama in the series it's a shame the DRS is always a main talking point. The poor level of umpiring is still a big concern.

4th test time today. The weekend again provides a golf major to follow too!

Expect at most 1 change per team. Sounds like Bird will come in for Australia, either for Harris if he can't manage the 2nd of back to back tests, or Starc who has looked the weakest of their bowlers. We'll probably remain the same although I'd really like Onions to come into the side on his home ground. Not really a big fan of Bresnan. He has not done much wrong and bowls useful overs and scores some useful runs but just doesn't look like taking wickets. Broad hasn't taken wickets either but has looked very threatening and been pretty unlucky not to have more whereas Bresnan just doesn't look very threatening at all. Think we need more out of the 3rd seamer here as Anderson and Swann are not going to bowl them out every time. Onions was magnificent in the 2009 Ashes and I'd love him to have another chance.

Pretty dismal day that was. Hopefully Bresnan can get us close to 260 which would at least be something to bowl with. Most of it was generally poor batting rather than destructive bowling which has been a theme throughout the series. Really need Cook to go one from one of these starts as he keeps getting to 50 then getting out. Everything I'd heard about the Durham pitch this season made it sound a bowl first pitch and that looks to have proved correct.

Looks like Broad's having one of those days he seems to have once a series where he rips through the opposition on his own. It's why you always want him in the team. Despite having a few quiet matches in terms of wickets, he's always going to produce one day in the series when he takes a bucket load.

Noone else watching anymore? Wondeful day that was. To bowl them out with only a 32 run lead when they started the day 16 behind with 5 wickets in hand was fantastic. Then another incredible innings from Bell, possibly an Ashes winning one, to wrap up Man of the Series as if there was any doubt. It's not just the runs, but the situations they have come in. The first came when we in trouble in the first test and looked like being out for a lead of only 150 or so, then the 2nd again came in big trouble at 30-3 on the first morning at Lords. Again today, 50-3 (effective 18-3 with the lead) and in a dire situation. Still need good contributions from Bresnan, Prior and Broad to setup the winning position. Would probably like to add another 80 then have 4 and a bit sessions to bowl them out. There are very few things in life as beautiful as a Bell hundred. Every shot is played exactly how the text books tell you.

Shame Bairstow got out late on as he was starting to look good. I like the way he tried to play. He's clearly not capable of being a Cook or Trott type who can defend for a long time and bat for days so I think it's the right approach to try and be more of a Pietersen type and take the attack to the bowlers. He still desparately needs a big score as he's only passed 50 once in the series and is yet to make a test hundred.

Can't see Aussies coming back now. A target of over 250 and it's over. Australia missed the bus by losing the opportunity to get a sizable lead, today. This should be the match-turning day unless Aussies can come up with something special.

Broad has been sensational, never in danger despite the counter attack by Warner which Cook did absolutely nothing about. Clarke has been at the receiving end of a couple of beauties in this series.

What's happening in Australia? They are such a poor side, also timid and lacking pride, not a normal Aussie side this.

Bell and Stuart Broad both deserve the man of the match award. I wish they can drop convention for a while and let them share it. Stuart Broad has bowled an incredible spell.

Fucking fantastic. Didn't think I'd get to see it in my life and now I've seen it 4 times. England have won the Ashes 4 times since Arsenal last won something, and with a good chance of making that 5.

That was the most unbelievable day of test cricket I think I've ever seen. It swung both ways so many times. Start of the day we looked certain to win, then when Bell and Prior got out early it didn't look like we were going to have enough runs. Then Bresnan and Swann took it up to 300 and it looked enough, then it was 119-1 at tea and looked like game over and a big win for Australia. The Broad produced the spell of his life and we took 9 wickets in the last session. What a game and what a series. Aside from the 1 sided thrashing at Lord's it really has been the most wonderful and dramatic series.

Feel sorry for Bell. Each of his 3 hundreds someone else has produced something more high profile to win man of the match. He will surely be Man of the Series though. Has anyone ever won Man of the Series in a 5 match series without winning a man of the match during the series?

Australia desperately need some quality in the middle order. Once Clarke is out you just feel like that's it. During that drinks break I even said out loud to myself "if we can just get Clarke we've got a chance," then Broad came up with that ball.

What a ball that was. Clarke has got a couple of corkers, one from Anderson and the one yesterday. Almost unplayable.

Indeed. No batsman in the world is keeping those balls out. What a feeling that must be to produce a ball like that for the best batsman in the world instead of a number 11. Harris got Root with one in this match too.

England is not playing to full potential though. Their top order isn't firing. This has been a bowler's series for most part, wouldn't be the same in Australia.

I can't help but feel that if not for rain in the third test, which in that case Australia would have certainly won in my opinion, this test would have gone Australia's way too. They carried forward some of the confidence but a win would have been a win, different effect than a draw due to rain.

The 5th test would have been something then. As it stands now, expect to see Australia be overrun in the 5th. I still am not sure if England have the ruthlessness to be the best team though.

We've definitely got away with it a bit without big contributions from Cook and Trott. Bairstow at 6 is also still yet to prove he should be in the side. Being 3-0 up knowing there is still plenty to come is a good feeling. You get the feeling Australia's batsmen haven't got much more. I also don't think it's certain Australia would have won the 3rd test. They still had 7 wickets to take in 2 sessions and we have a good history in recent years of batting out 5th days for draws. Most recently in Auckland in March when it was Root, Bell, Prior and Broad who were the ones to do it, and they were all still in or yet to come. We lost the 3rd test in 2010/11 by 267 runs then won the next 2 by an innings too.
