As a neutral will take a repeat of 2005/ 2009 all the time.

2005 was a great side playing at 90% and a very good team playing out of its skin. 2009 was two pretty average teams slugging it out.

This England team is ridiculously inconsistent. One series brilliant, the next complacent and pooey.

He doesn't look the best. That revometer is annoying but at least you can see the clear difference between someone like Swann and the pies Agar is dishing out.

He should stop pretending he's a bowler and focus on closing out hundreds.

Good partnership from our 2 best batsmen that was desperately needed. If one of them had gone early I think that would have been game over and 1-0 Australia. As I said, never underestimate Australia and never overestimate England. Pretty evenly poised now. A couple of early wickets for Australia and they should win, but if these 2 can bat through to lunch then we'll be able to set up a strong position with a reasonable amount of batting still to come with bell, Prior and Bairstow.

Can't help feeling absolutely gutted for Agar. What an incredible innings. Was looking good at 117-9, very close to game over but noone expected their number 11 to be a proper middle order batsman. He won't be staying down there for long that's for sure!

How many do we need then? Lead of close to 300 I Imagine.

Hard to say isn't it? Looks a really good batting track to me. 250 would be tricky, with england slight favourites because of Swann. 350 would feel pretty comfortable.

Dhoni is incredible. That's one more successful chase in an important match. We needed 15 off the last over with one wicket in hand and he gets dot, six, four and six to finish things off! He averages over 100 in successful ODI run chases (he has been a part of 72 such matches).

I was a big fan of Michael Bevan who was the first player to be tagged as an "ODI finisher", but, what Dhoni is doing certainly doesn't seem to have any parallels in ODI history.

In Bevan's heyday, 250 was still a really good score and the way one-dayers worked was changing, but still pretty different.

The powerplay, and the mad Sri Lankan openers of the mid 90s really changed things up. Bevan would arguably be a rather too conservative batsman for the limited overs forms nowadays.

Re England's innings, I doubt both batsmen at the crease will survive to lunch.

Yet another wonderful Australian batsman who couldn't hold down a test spot with all those greats. That 185 not out he made for the World XI against the Asian XI remains the best individual ODI innings I've ever seen. Wasn't quite enough as they lost by 1 run from memory.

I wouldn't call Bevan conservative at all. He wasn't a power player and yet scored quickly which is in itself very impressive. What Dhoni does is incredible but i had huge respect for Bevan's craft. His ability to place the ball between fielders at will and run twos and threes was as delightful as anything i have seen in one-day cricket.

Bevan had a strike rate of around 70 in ODI's I think, maybe slightly less. To be a finisher nowadays you've got to be 90+ really.

Brilliant player in a different era. I do regret ever watching him bowl all those overs of leprous spin though.

74.16 according to Cricino. I have no doubt Bevan would have that 90+ strike rate in today's game. He was the ultimate bat to the situation player.
