Anyone else watched the US Open? Wonderful win for Justin Rose. Kept expecting him to lose it having not really been in that position before but he held it together where other English players like Westwood and Donald have fallen apart in recent times (the latter did again to some extent yesterday). Couldn't see past Mickleson winning, especially when he holed that eagle off the fairway but he just couldn't make a putt all day and Rose did what he did him a few months earlier in the Ryder Cup.

First English major winner since 1996, something I wasn't sure I'd get to see again any time soon. In fact, Faldo's Masters win in 1996 is my earliest memory of watching golf.

awesome game six. i'd be shocked if spurs have anything left for game 7, must be a huge letdown to know you were this close to a title.

I find the relentless stoppages in NFL and NBA excruciatingly dull, and the sports at best so-so to watch, but hey, that's just culture talking.

Seeing the Broncos live a year or two ago was quite an amazing spectacle. There's a lot going on that isn't the sport: horses, parachutes, fireworks, cheerleaders in skimpy outfits. Real Colosseum stuff.

No one can objectively demand that others find Test cricket interesting if they haven't been raised on it.

True. I'm rarely happier than when I'm watching 5 days of test cricket. But I can't stand something like NFL when it's a one hour game that takes all day. Don't particularly like Baseball but when my cousins in LA took me to a Dodgers game when I was there I really enjoyed it.

Would hate to see LeBron win another ring. One, i don't like him, as incredible an athlete as he is and two, it would be a nice to see Spurs win again after all these years. This is Duncan's last chance.

i find cricket to be the worst sport out there. i've tried to give it a fair chance, but i just find it unwatchable. this is coming from a guy that enjoys most other major sports, was born in south africa, and raised in australia!

Test match cricket is amazing.

Low scoring test matches are the best.

There is hardly anything in sports that tests your skills, nerves and determination as much as batting on dusty square turners or bouncy green wickets in swinging conditions.

But seriously, don't think the team South Africa had out was that good. Needed Amla or De Villiers to bat big if they had a chance.

Yes. Although we lost, I'll never forget Australia's failed run chase in this classic match. I'm sure some of the SA people remember it fondly.

Thursday night probably around 9pm ET here in the US. Early hours of the morning, say 3 am Friday in England I believe.

I'm curious as to the apparent lack of interest in golf amongst most English posters here. Is it a general English thing, or are you guys just more into cricket and darts and rugby?

Justin Rose just won a major (US Open) and that's kind of a big deal.

Playing golf is a bit like naming your kid Hugo or Magnus.

The upper crust, managing directors, senior politicians etc used to be into it 30 years ago so now it's popular with social climbers.

In ten years competitive cycling will be the new golf, and the new Hugo and Magnus will be whatever rich people called their kids in the 1990s.

I'm into golf and was the only person to post about it the other day. Probably because I've grown up aorund it - my Dad is obsessed and used to play weekly until his back packed up. He was the kind of person to always take the last day of a major off work (I saw was because he's now retired). I don't have much interest in the regular weekly tournaments but am usually glued to the majors and Ryder Cup.
