Don't know what the sport is like elsewhere, but anglers fish on, and get swept off the large coastal granite outcrops in the south of Western Australia fairly often, due to these intermittent 50 foot "king" waves and the treacherous surface of the rocks. Once you're in the ocean in those circumstances you're basically fucked.

Amongst all the Arsenal gloom thank heavens for the England cricket team for some joy. I grew up following them in the 1990s so what's happening now is the stuff of dreams. Certainly couldn't have imagined when we won the league unbeaten that I'd get to see England win the Ashes 3 times and become officially the number 1 test team before we'd win the league again! At that stage I didn't think I'd get to celebrate an Ashes win in my lifetime!

How are the irish boys doing out there - Kennelly, Setanta, Walsh, err anyone else? Kennelly is retiring next year i hear, he really did well for himself out there...maybe he'll give one final year for Kerry when he returns home.

Don't really know Walsh. I follow Carlton a bit, and o'hAilpin has had a pretty average season. He's known for being one of the 'big personalities' of the AFL.

Kenelly is obviously a good player and a Swans legend. Has some sort of player-coaching role there now.

Do you know Jim Stynes? He's the ex-Gaelic footballer best known for making the code switch. Overall the Irish imports have been a real mixed bag with loads of failures.

Thing about that was she was totally in the wrong. Then to carry it on at the interval... well, that was ridiculous and as for not shaking hands at the end. Really, really poor of her. Would be very excited about the Djokovic Nadal match about to start were I not in desperate need of an early night!

Just took in the Oakland Raiders beating the Denver Broncos at Mile High Stadium - bought tickets off a scalper for what turned out to be a decent price. Massive 9/11 commemoration before the game - flyovers, paragliders with fireworks, hundreds of cops, firefighters and paramedics, a USMC precision drill, cheerleaders galore, things exploding, the US anthem and America the Brave, etc. etc.

After that the match itself was a bit of a letdown. Ok, I lie, it was hugely entertaining. Pretty amazing spectacle to be honest, it's a silly sport but it's good fun.

Anyone watch Mayweather-Ortiz? It was pretty funny!

Ortiz headbutted Mayweather, ref sent them to their corners, when they came back together Ortiz tried to say sorry by hugging him but Mayweather just smacked him with the left while Ortiz had his guard down then knocked him out with the right.

Boxing is dead now. But it sure had some quotable and interesting characters 30 or 40 years ago. I feel like the sports world has lost that. We just have these sterile perfectionists like Messi or Federer running things.
