Fucking come on. Have I said how much I love Mark Wood? Noone more deserving to be there at the end like that. Was almost hoping for a dot ball on that last ball of Starc's over so Wood could hit the winnings runs off Cummins.
Really happy for Woakes coming back with a big performance too. A very underrated player who has always been solid in all three formats (one of only 4 players to play in both the ODI and T20 World Cup final wins). Much criticised after the last Ashes, hadn't been picked under Mccullum/Stokes yet and looked like he might not play a test again. Came in with 80 left and needed someone to stay there and anchor it home.
Thought it was done when Stokes was out and certainly when Bairstow was.
Also first Ashes test win I've got to see since 2015 as I missed the 2019 series while on holiday in USA.

A mate of mine was there with his kids in the western stand - the raucous part of the ground. He was a tiny bit apprehensive because the kids - aged in their early teens - wore their Aussie cricket tops. But he said the crowd were very good natured, if a little drunk, and a couple of blokes even went and bought Yorkshire cricket caps for both kids. It did help that their Mum is a Yorkshirewoman.

Series is nicely set up now, which is good for cricket. I think we'll retain but you never know!

Wife was happy that I was unable to access the Sky Sports app whilst were on holiday in Greece.

Did manage to watch the highlights though, and I can only imagine the live buzz as Wood was pulling shots for 6. Nicely set up for next week now.

Interested to see if they fit Wood/Woakes in next week. I can’t imagine Anderson will be rested/dropped at Old Trafford despite this looking like the end for him unfortunately.

James Wood and Woakes obviously have to play. It does look like a final series for Anderson and I imagine with Robinson being injured he'll come back in and the difficult decision doesn't have to be made. Having Woakes is so valuable because it makes the batting lineup longer and also doesn't kill us if one bowler under performs or gets injured as what happend with Robinson not being able to bowl much.
The debate is what to do at 3. It never seemed a good idea to put Brook there and I'd argue moving Ali up did work in the sense that it put Brook back in his best position and he then played the match winning knock. The obvious option would be to move everyone up one but Root doesn't want to move from 4 and you have to keep your best player in his best spot. Not sure what the best answer is if not Root.
We've not lost much from there anyway. Pope has been decent in the last year but this is his second Ashes and he still hasn't made a score against them so not sure he was going to do much anyway.

James Wife was happy that I was unable to access the Sky Sports app whilst were on holiday in Greece.

My wife hasn't been best pleased with it given the days start at 10pm our time so I haven't been coming to bed. Generally watching the first session live the getting up early to watch the 2nd delayed. "Working" from home has helped as I'm generally home on Thursdays and Fridays, and a couple of days of each test have been the weekend. Her face when I said there were 5 matches was a picture 😆

Djokovic is the Cristiano Ronaldo of tennis. It's absurd that he's in the condition he is at 36 years of age. What a phenomenal athlete!

invisibleman18 Been a while since I've paid attention, but I watched quite a bit of the third Test and it was great entertainment. Seems like one of the better Ashes series, plenty of talent and emotion and the teams are evenly balanced on these wickets. Could go either way from here …

Burnwinter been 3 really entertaining tests that could have gone either way and that's about what was expected between the two teams. 2-1 feels a much fairer reflection of the games than 3-0 would have.

Going to be fun in F1 again now that McClaren has a proper car, and that Danny Ric is back. Netflix must be very pleased, because the season was shaping up to be quite boring.

Wonder why tennis players raise their hands in apology when their returns hit the net and go in. If it was me i'd want to be lucky like that every time.
