He's a strange one alright. There's a touch of the Asbies about him - practised charm, and personable enough until you try to have an actual conversation at which point you realise he has zero affect.
That said, he's quite good to have in the team, and I can forgive a guy for being a boring exercise nut given that, hey, he's in the fittest 0.01% or so of the population.
