He was like 2 for 19 in the first half. 2 for 19! That's absolutely insane. He obviously didn't feel it on the night, but he just kept chucking like there was no tomorrow.
Take Curry to compare with; Curry too started the game poorly shooting wise too. Instead of keep shooting, he focused on rebounding and assisting, and he primarily took the ball to the basket when he was looking to score. He allowed other people, read Klay Thompson, to carry the load for a while. When the OKC defense focused more on Klay, Curry got some good looks, knocked a few shots down, and all of a sudden felt good about his shot. In essence, Curry let the game come to him, where Durant on his part kept forcing it all game. Curry ended up with 29 points and a rebound short of a triple double, and Durant ended up a loser.
Durant is an insanely talented player. You really shouldn't be able to do what he does at his height! He is absolutely phenomenal, and a scoring machine. However, this problem of hero ball is something we have seen throughout the whole season, and IMO Durant has to take a big, big responsibility for them losing games they really should have won over and over. What's worse, for me, is that they found a winning formula. During the regular season they were in the bottom for assists. Then in the playoffs, starting with the Spurs series really, they were among the best. Then, when it mattered the most, Durant especially, but also Westbrook of course, reverted back to brain dead basketball which has proven so costly all season.
