Is it easier for East Coast teams to win the Superbowl because of the time difference? I'm aware that the Giants play at the 49ers this weekend though.
I remember the Cardinals made it one year. Unreal.
I think quite a bit of research has gone into it. Even if you look at North and South divisions, there are still a lot of sides on the Eastern side of the country. I don't know (or sincerely doubt) anything significant has been found though.
Yeah, the Cardinals road to the Superbowl was what really got me in to NFL. No way should the Cardinals have got anywhere near the Lombardi, and we (i use that term loosely) were only 30 seconds, and one ridiculous play from Big Ben and Holmes away from winning it. Add to that James Harrison's freak pick six, and some ridiculous officiating. It was pretty gutting. The game had everything though, was one of the greatest sporting matches i've seen.
I read a ridiculous fact a couple of weeks ago regarding the playoffs...For 16th consecutive year, at least 5 teams have made playoffs who hadn't the year before. The unpredictable nature of it is another reason why i've grown to love it. Would really love to get to a game outside of the International fixture.
Do you have a team Tony? I remember when you first began to really watch it. Gotten into now, huh?
My NFL History
Sorry for my late reply. I'm like 10 days late lol! Totally forgot about this thread as I don't rely on reminders, just memory.
My first attempt at watching American Football was in 2005 when an American came to my uni for 6 months. He watched the Superbowl in my halls (massive TV and loads of chairs in the common room) and I loved the atmosphere. At the national anthem he asked kindly if he could stand up for it, hand on chest. We said of course but I loved it. It sounds ridiculous but i'll never forget that. I was really rooting for him and his team, the New England Patriots.
But I couldn't finish the game as I basically didn't understand it and went to bed. I didn't watch it again until the Cardinals game. I knew the Cardinals were supposed to be the underdogs. Great game but still went to be before the Steelers made the last touchdown.
Over the years i've tried to watch it as regularly as possible and followed your thread on A-M. So thanks for your link to the rules. That really cemented the game for me. I know I asked you and AnthonyG so many questions lol! But watching NFL late on Sunday Night when you have work the next day can be difficult.
Now, in the U.S., I am REALLY into it. I can sit down and watch the games all day. Or I can go to a bar and watch it with the atmosphere. It's what I did for the Play Offs. I think for the SuperBowl I should go to a house and see it.
I root for the Saints because I love their story and I think Drew Brees is the coolest Quarterback. I love their pre-game chants. They also won the SuperBowl when I was getting into it. Was gutted at their loss to the 49ers. That's when I knew I really enjoy American Football now.
Can't wait for the Superbowl this year.
