He's put his body on the line for England for so many years now, he deserves this.

Edit: This is now a world record 10th wicket stand, going past Agar and Hughes last year.

Shame he got out for 81 in the end, would have been incredible to see him get to 100. Wasn't just hit and hope like you sometimes get with a number 11 too, lot of proper batsman's shots he's never looked capable of hitting in his career.

Ian Thorpe coming out as gay. Good on him. There's a need for people to make their voices heard there. Swimming is such a homophobic sport. It's probably even worse than ice hockey and football.

Aye. I used to think it was bad at my local club but it's something else entirely when you reach the age where you get to travel abroad to compete.

I always found it odd, because it's easily the most equal sport in the world as far as distribution of resources and coverage to both men and women goes.

It was probably his enormous fame that stopped him coming out as much as the culture of swimming.

As a teenager (when he probably wasn't even sure of his sexuality) he was forced to repeatedly deny he was gay by intrusive interviewers. Once you've done that in public a dozen times it's pretty hard to go back on it.

Anyway, no big deal for the world but a big deal for him, so good on him.

Good for him. It's been rumoured for a long time and sounds like he's suffered a lot with depression and other issues so glad he's finally felt able to do this.

damn as an outsider i always thought swimming was gay friendly like figure skating and gymnastics. maybe they try extra hard to show they are not gay because people who aren't familiar with the sport like me just assume a lot of them are gay anyway.

Greenest looking wicket I've ever seen today at Lord's. Same colour as the outfield. Ball swinging like a banana, this could be a 2 and half day test! 😆

McIlroy holds on for a dominant win. Amazingly the first European to win three different majors since the Masters began in 1934. Even Ballesteros and Faldo only won two of the four.

And we're fucked in the cricket. Cook is getting really worrying now. After the 2 Ashes series I was still confident class would eventually come through bad form and this is a guy with 8000 test runs. But it's an entire year now without a score.
