Yeah pretty big deal here over the last few days. Daryl Tuffey (ex fast bowler) is also supposed to have been involved. People feel like it would be easier to take if it was just minor players like Vincent and Tuffey, but Cairns was the star and the hero for pretty much everyone from my sort of generation. There's no suggestion so far of international matches being involved, it seems to have started when they went to the ICL but Vincent has also admitted doing it in county games and NZ domestic games.
There was an ODI between NZ and Australia that I went to in Auckland in about 2004/2005 and Tuffey bowled a 14 ball opening over. No ball after no ball after no ball after wide after wide. Was one of the funniest things I'd ever seen and I remember an Aussie fan in front us saying "they'll have to take drinks after this over." Makes you wonder now.
Tony Veitch (NZ sports journalist most known for beating up his ex wife and throwing her down the stairs at their house) has been hinting on Facebook of even bigger legends being involved.
