JazzG because he was a ray of light when we were shit and I’ll never forget that. Also, he scored some of my favourite Arsenal goals and had the best celebrations (Milan away, spurs at home and away, Liverpool away, Man Utd at home). Basically check his goal/celebration catalogue of 2007/2008.

I also remember one game he came on when we were losing to championship side Sheffield Utd away in the fa cup (when they were managed by Neil Warnock) when we had an outfield player play in goal (can’t remember who) and we were getting kicked pillar to post but when a then 19 year old Cesc came off the beach he signaled to the team that we should give it as good as we got physicality wise - was proper leader material and I never forget that as well.

Van Persie spent most of his time here on the injury table, then fucked off after one top injury free season.

Cesc leaving only precipitated it all. Nasri was never renewing once we sold Cesc. We played some of the of the best football I have ever seen us play with all 3 fit. I remember a thread on A-M titled after us possibly scoring a 100 goals in the season when those 3 started on fire. If Cesc doesn't push to leave (strike), both Nasri and Van Persie extend I would like to think.

Wenger was a fool to believe he could get a group of young talented foreign players to build a culture at the club with the limitations on spending and possibly a title or two. When he failed, he was a bigger fool to try it then with a young English core.

I find it very hard to forgive Cesc may be because then I liked him a lot too.

Wenger was penny wise pound foolish - If he'd upped the bid by 1-2m in 2008 xabi would be an arsenal player and if he upped the suarez bid by 5-10m he'd be an arsenal player

Gurgen I'm not favourable on Fabregas. I remember the player fondly but don't particularly like the man. But that's not half a take that wilfully ignores the whole context and history of that era.

Gurgen I think its spot on. Fabregas represented a change in style and personality that didn't really get fixed until Mikel came in and started signing big, strong, duel monsters.

Leaders make mistakes. Adams ended up in prison, Vieira missed pre-season when linked with Madrid and Dein had to chase him around the world to stop him signing with them, and Henry's treatment of Reyes could hardly be considered strong leadership. You don't like him, you don't rate his leadership, but he clearly was a leader on the pitch by being both an example to others and by being the best we had. That's not to deny the abundance of evidence where he fell short.

He was the figurehead of one of the poorest periods of our recent history, but the revisionism is ridiculous. He is not the reason we turned to shit, he's the symptom not the cause.

I find both the vituperation and the knob-polishing about Fabregas very odd.
He was an excellent player for us who was lots of fun to watch, but in a period where we didn't win much.
He left. Players move. I don't see how you can want the club to be ruthless and blame players for looking out for their own interests.
As a manager he's off to a good start but, as he would tell you himself, has a long way to catch up to Arteta.
