I’m never going to accept the market has moved just because a few clubs who have ridiculous transfer histories are yet throwing money around due to a mix of desperation, bankrolling new managers with something to prove, and general stupidity.

There is better value and no doubt better players out there. It might be the beginnings of a worrying trend if we do keep being gazumped due to being slow to complete though, so there’s a fair bit of work to be done by Berta. I can’t imagine Monga being a huge issue but it’ll be interesting to see if there’s any tension if Rogers was Arteta’s number one. target.

This is nothing like Mudeyk. He was a virtual unknown that people got excited about due to highlights of him playing against really weak sides. Rogers has been one of the best PL players for the last 2 years.

£117m is a lot of money even in this market. That's not one but two Gyökeres last summer. That's two overpriced Konsas.

It's easy to collar the club about this, but this is Chelsea and Alonso looking at their squad and acting in desperation. This is Spurs coughing up £95m for Tonali. Here's hoping we stay grounded, go back to the market, and use our clout as incumbent champions to figure out the balance of signings that is actually going to keep us competitive.

I'm not sure signing Rogers for £110m and then having to cut our losses on Martinelli is better for us than wedging Guimarães out of Newcastle and hanging onto Martinelli. Newcastle has just signed Bergvall, making a deal on Guimarães that much more possible.

We need to keep Martinelli and sign a new new LW. Trossards gone, this should have been his replacement. Now we need to bring in Barcola or someone else in that tier or we are going backwards.

Honestly, not remotely moved by this. If Arsenal really wanted this guy, he would be coming here, and not to the obvious basket case that is Chelsea. I’ve never watched this guy and felt he has the full package. He’s just a humble collection of highlight goals.

He’s a solid performer but he is quite loose with his touch at times.

lorddulaarsenal he's better than anyone we have for LW. That's an area we have to address. He was first choice, we missed out on him as long as we move onto our next option and get it sorted it should be fine. That has to be done soon though, we don't want to start the season short considering we'll be missing so many World Cup players for pre-season.

Mirth I don't remember anyone saying we got Rice too cheap. He's proven his worth but at the time everyone was saying more or less the same about us overpaying. Anyway if I was a Villa fan now I'd be far from laughing considering they're losing almost all their good players.
