That's very romantic of you Jimmy. The fact is that the club is ultimately a business, and businesses are about the bottom line.
We as fans don't even really care about what is best for the players if they are not serving our/the clubs interests of winning football games and trophies. Once injuries or poor form start to derail them, we are often clamoring for the next hot thing. In this case, it serves both our interests - Nwaneri needs to play, and we can use the money to balance our books or put it towards other immediate needs.
I've had and voiced my doubts about Nwaneri making it here even before he left on loan last term. If you watch closely, you know it's not about his technical ability or talent, but about his speed of thought, physicality and decision making. Possibly his mentality too. Even at youth level you'd often see him hold on for too long and frequently drift in and out of games, or just get too easily dispossessed.
Then he went on loan to Marseille and deZerbi got fired - at what looked like to me was a critical point in his career. And when I pointed out then how catastrophic it might potentially be, I was told it didn't matter. A whole year, lost. No biggie. Here we are.
Anyway, we have obviously moved on. He's deemed not good enough for this phase of our project. The club has been carefully hoovering up the best young talent it can get it hands on in recent months/years, so if we thought Nwaneri had much to offer outside of sating fans' desire to see another Hale Ender make it into the first team, I'm sure Arteta would be fighting harder to keep him. He's not. The squad is stacked. Ethan's not displacing Dowman or Madueke on the wings. He's not displacing or replacing any of our midfielders. That's professional football. I wish him luck wherever he ends up. Hopefully we can get loads of cash for him.
